The Washington Commanders host the Miami Dolphins from FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland today. The Dolphins are coming off a 34-13 beating of the Jets, while the Commanders are coming off three-straight defeats, with the most recent being a 45-10 blowout loss to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. What is the best bet in the matchup between these two teams today?

Washington Commanders vs. Miami Dolphins Prediction
There will be a lot of points today. How else can I put it? The Dolphins have the most explosive offense in the NFL. They are first overall in yards per game with 430. They are averaging seven yards per play, also first, and they are averaging just over 30 points per game (second). On the other side, the Commanders are allowing 29.2 points per game, which is last in the NFL. They are giving up 264 passing yards per game (30th), and 377 total yards of offense per game (29th).
Since the Commanders traded Montez Sweat and Chase Young, their pass rush has dropped off a cliff, which was the only redeemable thing about this defense at the start of the season. Now, the Commanders have no real threat on defense, and they cannot get to the quarterback, which is pretty important against the Dolphins.
However, what the Commanders DO have in this game is an offense - a very good one at that. Sam Howell has impressed in his second year in the NFL, as he currently leads the NFL with 3,339 passing yards. He's also been spreading the ball out well, as four Commanders' receivers are above 400 receiving yards. Terry McLaurin has been his top target, but Curtis Samuel and Jahan Dotson have been impressive in their own right.
However, Sam Howell is also tied for the lead with 13 interceptions. Turnovers have been an issue for this offense, which can lead to short fields for the other team. Turnovers have kept this offense from being truly elite, but the future is bright in Washington for the offense. Due to that, my favorite play is the over in this game.
We have seen Miami drop 70 points this season. Their ground game is just as explosive as Tua throwing to Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and not many defenses have been able to slow them down this season. Washington certainly does not have the weapons on defense to slow them down, but in the same right, Sam Howell and the Commanders' passing attack should be able to keep up. While I don't know if the Commanders score enough to cover the 9.5-point spread, I am confident these teams trade points and keep the ball moving with ease. This total is hanging just under 50, but it is the highest total on the board today. That is a sign. This game could and should hit over even 60 points.
