The Jacksonville Jaguars host the Cincinnati Bengals tonight from EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, on Monday night football. This is a big game in the AFC for both teams. The 8-3 Jaguars hold first place in the AFC South, but the Colts and Texans are breathing down their necks at 7-5. The Bengals are in last place in the AFC North, but a win brings them to 6-6 and just one game out of the wild card race. Therefore, both teams need a win as we close out Week 13. Leg One: Jake Browning Over 21.5 Completions
Last week, in the Bengals' 16-10 loss to the Steelers, Jake Browning went 19-26 with 227 passing yards. Tonight, his line is set at 21.5 completions with plus money on the over, but only at DraftKings, who has the best price.
Tonight, 22 seems doable for Browning, given this game script. The Bengals are big dogs, and the Jaguars' defense absolutely shuts down opposing runners. Joe Mixon has also not been having a good season on the ground. He had eight carries for 16 yards last week. The Bengals ran 26 pass plays and 11 runs. The only reason Browning didn't get over 21.5 completions last week is because they only had the ball for 22 minutes to the Steelers 37 minutes. The Jaguars will score much quicker as a much better offense, and the Bengals will have the ball for more than 22 minutes tonight. Browning has been throwing short and easy passes, and I love this line at plus money.
Leg Two: Evan Engram Over 47.5 Receiving Yards
The Bengals have been giving up HUGE games to opposing tight ends. They are giving up 70.8 yards per game to tight ends, which is .2 behind the Broncos for most in the league. Evan Engram has been dominating the tight-end targets, with Luke Farrell getting 12 targets all year. Engram has 82.
Engram is third on the Jags with 524 yards, and he is averaging 47.6 a game, right at this number. However, the way the Bengals have been getting blown up by opposing tight ends, I expect Engram to hit 50+ tonight. Just last week, Pat Freiermuth had his best game of the season, hitting 120 yards on nine receptions. Kittle had 149 a few weeks before that. This defense just cannot contain tight ends.
Leg Three: Trevor Lawrence Over 13.5 Rushing Yards
When you think of mobile quarterbacks, Trevor Lawrence isn't the first name that comes to mind by any means, but 14 rush yards is very doable for him in this game script.
Trevor Lawrence has hit 14+ rushing yards in six of the Jaguars seven games won by 7 or more points. Lawrence has had four games with 7+ rushing attempts, showing he can use his legs when needed, and even by design (more rare). The Bengals will be dropping back in coverage to stop the big plays, leaving some open field for Lawrence if he steps up in the pocket and takes off.
The Bengals are 31st in the NFL is opposing QB rushing yards, allowing 27.8 per game. Lawrence is averaging 21.8 rush yards per game. On top of all that, Etienne is banged up and questionable, meaning Lawrence could decide to run himself more often, or we could even see a few more designed run plays for him. Lastly, DraftKings has the BEST line by far, as most other books have Lawrence at 16.5 rush yards. That could be very important to get those few extra yards if this happens to come down to kneel-downs at the end of the game or something.
