Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are once again underdogs on the point spread in this playoff game. The Chiefs were underdogs against Buffalo and Baltimore on the road in the AFC Divisional and AFC Championship rounds, winning both outright with a blend of running and defense. Kansas City has covered the spread in eight of their last nine games against teams with a winning record, while the 49ers have failed to cover the spread as favorites against AFC West opponents in six straight appearances.

Getting two points with arguably the best quarterback to ever play in the NFL seems too good to be true, which is why the public is all over this line. San Francisco has the better team on paper, but Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is much more successful in big games than 49ers head coach, Kyle Shanahan. Factor in Brock Purdy, the 49ers' quarterback, playing in his first Super Bowl, compared to Mahomes, who is competing in his fourth Super Bowl since 2019, and the experience factor becomes a massive edge.

Bettors love the over in this game. It's easy to see why, as the 49ers won 34-31 against Detroit in the NFC Championship game. However, 11 of San Francisco's last 14 playoff games have gone under. The Chiefs have also been a profitable team for unders this season, going 14-6. They did hit the over during their AFC Divisional Round win against Buffalo, 27-24, but Kansas City has preferred to rely on its run game with Isiah Pacheco, paired with it's stout pass defense to win games. With so many trends pointing toward the under, it may be wise to fade the public in the point total market.

TOP PROP BETS FOR 49ERS VS CHIEFS

Prop markets are heavily wagered in every NFL game, but the Super Bowl will see a massive increase in prop bets. The top prop bets the public are betting on ahead of Super Bowl 58 include 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey to go over 34.5 receiving yards, while Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce is popular in the anytime touchdown scorer market, as well as going over on his receiving yards, which is set to 69.5.

McCaffrey is a pivotal piece in the 49ers passing attack, hauling in four or more receptions in five consecutive games. San Francisco's star running back has recorded over 34.5 receiving yards only once during this streak though, so taking the under on this number, especially against a porous Chiefs run defense, makes sense.

Travis Kelce is the other super star that bettors love in Super Bowl 58 prop markets. Kelce has a lot of wagers placed on his anytime touchdown scorer odds at +100, which makes sense, since he's scored in eight of his past nine playoff games. He's racked up three touchdowns for the Chiefs since the AFC Divisional Round against Buffalo. There's plenty of reasons to invest in Kelce's anytime touchdown scorer prop at even odds, especially in a top-heavy Kansas City offense.

Finally, bettors love Kelce to go over 69.5 receiving yards. This number has inflated to 72.5 on FanDuel Sportsbook. Kelce has recorded 71 receiving yards or more in all three of the Chiefs' playoff games this postseason. He's done so by catching seven passes against Miami, five against Buffalo, and 11 while facing a stingy Baltimore pass defense in the AFC Championship game. Bettors who got in early on over 69.5 yards should feel very good about their chances of cashing this prop, which is why it's one of the most popular wagers entering Super Bowl 58.
