Carolina Panthers vs. New England Patriots Prediction
The Patriots and the Panthers were two of the worst teams in football last year. They combined for just six wins during the 2023 season. The gameplan for tonight differs significantly for these two teams, as the Panthers are resting Bryce Young and the Patriots are supposedly playing all of their QBs. This should make for an interesting first preseason game for both teams…
There’s a chance Jack Plummer plays the entire game for the Panthers, which is a concerning thought. They just signed Jake Luton, who might end up playing towards the end of the game. If he does, that could mean trouble for Carolina. He was only signed a few weeks ago…
The Patriots have made it clear that they have not decided on a Week 1 starter at quarterback. One of my favorite preseason angles to back is when a team is in the midst of a QB competition, and right now the Patriots have four quarterbacks in the mix. That means you’re getting four competitive quarterbacks with a chance to earn the starting job, which should result in a higher-scoring offense.
Think about it… what do the Panthers have to prove without their starting quarterback on Thursday. It’s clear that this is simply a warmup game for the Panthers, but New England is using this game as an opportunity to find their next starting QB. I’ll back the team with four solid QB’s to cover the biggest spread of the first week of preseason football. You don’t see spreads this large in the preseason very often, and the Patriots are laying nearly a touchdown for a reason.
Jacoby Brissett, Drake Maye, Bailey Zappe and Joe Milton should all see the field on Thursday night, which means four quarterbacks all looking to earn the starting role will be playing like it’s the Super Bowl. I’ll back that side against Jack Plummer and the Panthers, whose roster depth is significantly weaker than the Patriots.
