The Commanders’ season has obviously gone off the rails, yet there are still meaningful positives developing down the stretch. The most notable is a ground game that is quietly gaining traction. Jacory Croskey Merritt has emerged as a real spark, coming off a breakout performance against Dallas where he gashed the Cowboys for over 100 yards on limited touches and scored twice. He has now found the end zone in four straight weeks while averaging nearly six yards per carry. Chris Rodriguez has also contributed with physical runs and steady efficiency, giving Washington a legitimate two back rotation that can control tempo.
That matters in this matchup because Philadelphia has been far more vulnerable against the run than the pass. Washington may not be an efficient rushing team overall, but it does not need to dominate. It just needs to sustain drives, shorten the game, and keep pressure off an offense that may be severely limited.
On the other side, the Eagles come into this game in a strange spot. The recent box scores look encouraging, but much of that production came against soft competition.
