San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks Prediction
Seattle completely controlled that game. The Seahawks outgained San Francisco by nearly two hundred yards, dominated time of possession, and held a Kyle Shanahan offense to one of its worst performances in years. That was not a fluky result or a game decided by turnovers. It was a structural mismatch, and the conditions are even more favorable for Seattle this time around.
The biggest issue for San Francisco is how limited its offense becomes against disciplined defenses. Brock Purdy thrives when he can generate explosive plays off motion and play action, but Seattle is built to erase those opportunities. No defense in the league does a better job limiting chunk gains through the air, and Purdy was forced into a short passing game the last time these teams met. Without George Kittle, that problem becomes even more severe. Asking this offense to string together long, mistake free drives is not a recipe for success against a defense that excels on late downs and in the red zone.
Seattle’s defensive profile is a nightmare for this version of the 49ers. The Seahawks are elite against motion, elite defending the middle of the field, and comfortable playing light boxes that bait opponents into inefficient runs. San Francisco has struggled badly in those exact situations all season, ranking near the bottom of the league when facing light fronts. Christian McCaffrey will get touches, but that alone has not been enough to break this defense, as we already saw across two meetings.
On the other side, Seattle does not need to be explosive to cover this number. Sam Darnold was efficient and composed in the Week 18 matchup, and he should once again have clean pockets against a San Francisco pass rush that simply does not get home. The Seahawks are content to lean on the run, control the tempo, and let their defense dictate the game when playing from ahead. At home, with extra rest, that is exactly the script they want.
San Francisco’s defense is banged up, short on depth, and vulnerable in the trenches. Even if Seattle does not light up the scoreboard, sustained drives and field position advantages will add up. In a low scoring game where every possession matters, the team that can consistently win third down and red zone situations holds a massive edge. That team is Seattle.
This is a spot where recent results, matchup fit, and situational factors all point in the same direction. Seattle is healthier, better rested, and clearly built to handle what San Francisco wants to do offensively.
