4 Minute ReadColts vs. Patriots Prediction: Can Anthony Richardson Boost Trade Stock as Full Starter on Thursday Night?
Indianapolis is a three-point road favorite, with the Colts -3 (-108), New England +3 (-112) and the total at 37.5. Indianapolis is -155 on the moneyline, while New England is +130. The Colts finished 8-9 and missed the playoffs last season, while the 14-3 Patriots reached Super Bowl LX before losing 29-13 to Seattle.
Indianapolis has already revealed its entire quarterback plan. Daniel Jones will not play, Anthony Richardson will start and handle the complete first half, and Riley Leonard will take over for the second half. Most of the Colts’ regular offensive starters are also expected to sit, with only a few potentially receiving a series or two.

Colts vs. Patriots Prediction
New England is taking a similarly cautious approach after giving its frontline players significant work in joint practices. Drake Maye is not expected to play, leaving Tommy DeVito and rookie Behren Morton to handle the quarterback snaps. Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson are also unlikely to dress.
That means the defending AFC champions will spend most of Thursday evaluating depth pieces such as Kyle Williams, Efton Chism III, Jam Miller and other players fighting for roster roles. New England’s established offensive core should spend the evening watching rather than driving the scoring.
Richardson creates some volatility because of his rushing ability and willingness to push the ball downfield, but he will be operating without much of Indianapolis’ normal starting offense. Leonard then gets an entire second half against a Patriots defense that should also be cycling through young players.
Preseason totals are difficult because turnovers, short fields and broken plays can create points that have little connection to offensive quality. Still, both teams are removing their starting quarterbacks and many of their primary weapons, while vanilla schemes and extended backup quarterback snaps should naturally suppress sustained drives.
Colts vs. Patriots Pick
- Pick: Colts/Pats Under 37.5 Total Points (-110) Check out these best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
The 37.5 total is already low, but the playing-time plans justify it. With Jones and Maye sitting, most offensive starters protected and four backup quarterbacks responsible for essentially the entire game, scoring opportunities should be limited enough to keep this below the number.
