Tennessee is surprisingly laying six points on the road, with the Titans -6 (-110), San Francisco +6 (-110) and the total at 39.5. The contrast from last season is substantial, with San Francisco finishing 12-5 and reaching the Divisional Round while Tennessee went 3-14 and missed the postseason.
The 49ers have dealt with significant injury and roster uncertainty throughout camp, which helps explain the unusual spread. George Kittle, Isaac Guerendo, Mykel Williams and Alfred Collins were among the notable players who opened camp on the PUP list, while San Francisco has continued adding depth pieces as the preseason opener approaches.

Kyle Shanahan has also indicated that very few regular starters will play Thursday. That places greater importance on a quarterback depth chart featuring Brock Purdy followed by Mac Jones, Kurtis Rourke and Adrian Martinez, with the exhibition opener primarily serving as an evaluation of players fighting for roles.
Tennessee will give Ward some work, but expectations for his playing time should remain modest. The Titans have already made clear that the second-year quarterback will not play much, with his snaps focused on adjusting to Brian Daboll’s offense before the coaching staff quickly turns to the rest of the roster.
The Titans also have significant evaluation work of their own. Center and right guard remain unsettled, while rookie receiver Carnell Tate is making his preseason debut and Robert Saleh is implementing a new defensive system. Tennessee's starters therefore should not be treated as a four-quarter advantage simply because Ward is expected to appear.
