4 Minute ReadDolphins vs. Commanders Prediction: Will Malik Willis, Dolphins Offense Struggle on Friday Night?
Miami enters as a 3.5-point road favorite, with the Dolphins -3.5 (-105), Washington +3.5 (-115) and the total at 35.5. Miami went 7-10 last season, while Washington finished 5-12, leaving both teams outside the playoffs and entering 2026 with significant changes.
Malik Willis is expected to start at quarterback for Miami after signing during the offseason, and Jeff Hafley has confirmed that Willis will play. The exact length of his appearance remains unclear, which is typical for a first preseason game, but this is an important opportunity for Willis to operate Miami's new offense in live action.

Dolphins vs. Commanders Prediction
Washington has been even less specific about its first-team plan. Dan Quinn declined to announce exactly who will play after Wednesday's joint practice, but indicated that players who received substantial work in that session could see limited action or sit Friday. That makes an extended appearance from Jayden Daniels and Washington's top offensive unit difficult to project.
The joint practice also raised questions about Miami's offense. Washington repeatedly pressured Willis, with the Dolphins struggling to protect their new quarterback during several team periods. Turning around two days later with rotating offensive linemen and backup skill players is not an ideal setup for sustained scoring.
Preseason totals are difficult to handicap because turnovers and short fields can create cheap points, but this matchup has several ingredients for stalled drives. Washington may protect many of the starters who dominated Wednesday, while Miami is installing a new offense and evaluating a quarterback room that remains in transition.
Dolphins vs. Commanders Pick
- Pick: Under 35.5 Total Points (-102) Check out these best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
At only 35.5, the number is already low, but neither side has much incentive to open the playbook in a preseason opener immediately following a joint practice. Limited first-team snaps and long stretches of developmental personnel should keep enough possessions from reaching the end zone.
