Seattle enters as a three-point home favorite, with the Seahawks -3 (-105), Dallas +3 (-115) and the total at 38.5. Seattle went 14-3 last season and won Super Bowl LX, while Dallas finished 7-9-1 and missed the playoffs for a second straight year.
Dallas has already decided to protect its stars. Dak Prescott and most headline starters are expected to sit throughout the preseason, leaving Joe Milton III and Sam Howell to battle for the QB2 job. That actually makes Dallas more interesting in a preseason setting. Milton and Howell are competing for something tangible, meaning both quarterbacks should receive meaningful snaps rather than simply managing a few scripted possessions before sitting.
Seattle’s quarterback depth revolves around Sam Darnold, Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe. The defending champions have been emphasizing Milroe’s development throughout camp, while Lock remains the veteran backup behind Darnold. Seattle has much less reason to expose established stars for extended periods after a Super Bowl run.
Preseason is one of the few situations where Dallas sitting Prescott does not automatically make the Cowboys less attractive. The spread is ultimately determined by Milton, Howell and the bottom half of the roster, not by how much better Seattle’s starting lineup looked last season.
