Kansas City is a 2.5-point home favorite, with the Chiefs -2.5 (-110), Los Angeles +2.5 (-110) and the total at 36.5. The Rams went 12-5 last season and reached the NFC Championship Game before losing 31-27 to Seattle, while Kansas City collapsed to 6-11 and missed the postseason.
Sean McVay has already provided a clear Rams quarterback plan. Stetson Bennett IV will start, while rookie Ty Simpson is also guaranteed playing time. Stafford and the established offensive stars are not the focus of this opener.

Kansas City is similarly turning the game over to its backups. Andy Reid confirmed Mahomes will not play as he continues working back from knee surgery, leaving Justin Fields, rookie Garrett Nussmeier and Chris Oladokun to divide the quarterback snaps.
That removes much of the reason to give Kansas City the normal Arrowhead premium. Mahomes will not impact the result, and several Chiefs starters have been managing camp injuries, including Trey Smith, Drue Tranquill and Kader Kohou.
Bennett also has considerably more experience in McVay’s preseason system than a typical backup starter. Simpson is the developmental piece behind him, giving the Rams a straightforward two-quarterback plan rather than constantly rotating through an unsettled room.

Getting 2.5 points becomes attractive once the star quarterbacks are removed. Kansas City’s roster is still deep, but this is not Mahomes against Stafford. It is a backup-heavy matchup in which Los Angeles has a defined quarterback rotation and enough developmental talent to remain within a field goal.
