2025 Scottish Open Sleepers and Expert Picks: Explore Ryan Fox, Aaron Rai at The Renaissance Club

The 2025 Scottish Open has an exciting field ready to tee off from The Renaissance Club in North Berwick. Can Aaron Rai and Ryan Fox make a splash in the last tournament before the final major of the year? Matt MacKay provides his expert sleeper picks for the 2025 Scottish Open this week.

2025 Scottish Open Sleepers and Expert Picks: Explore Ryan Fox, Aaron Rai at The Renaissance Club

The PGA Tour and DP World Tour will both be competing in the field during the 2025 Scottish Open this week. Hosted at Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, this is a par 70 links course, running 7,282 yards.

Scottie Scheffler is back in action, meaning oddsmakers have the World No. 1 ranked golfer valued at +400 odds as the betting favorite in the outright winner market. Rory McIlroy is a close second at +750 odds. Tommy Fleetwood, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are also top five betting favorites, available between +2200 and +2500 odds.

Last year's winner, Robert MacIntyre, mounted a late comeback to beat Adam Scott for an emotional victory in his native country. MacIntyre is currently +3300 odds to successfully defend his title, which makes the Scotsman the seventh betting favorite this week.

Links courses don't have trees or water hazards. Instead, their primary defense is the coastal winds, undulated fairways and greens, pot bunkers and fescue rough. It's a precursor to Royal Portrush, which is set to host the Open Championship for the final major of the 2025 PGA Tour season.

2025 Scottish Open Sleeper Picks

Ryan Fox (+6500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Scottish Open odds

When it comes to bombing it off the tee and possessing a good putter, Ryan Fox is near the top of the list. This should be an ideal combination at the Renaissance Club this week, where the New Zealand native will look to build off of a pair of outright wins since mid-May.

Fox ranks 17th total strokes gained. He's 20th SG: Putting, 37th SG: Tee-to-Green and 24th SG: Approach. Fox is also top 30 in approach shots from 200+ yards, fourth in putting average and 23rd for birdie average in 2025.

The Kiwi has posted four consecutive top 20 finishes and has won in a playoff twice across his last six PGA Tour events. I expect a much stronger outing than the T57 finish Fox posted during the 2024 Scottish Open, primarily due to his current form.

Harry Hall (+6500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Scottish Open odds

Harry Hall was a big favorite at the Rocket Classic due to his high birdie conversion rate on a low-scoring course. Unfortunately, the Englishman wasn't quite able to break through into serious contention, posting a T13 finish.

The 27-year-old is well-rested and holds value at 65-1 in the outright winner betting market this week. Ranks second in SG: Putting on the PGA Tour, seventh scrambling and 26th for sand save percentage. Hall's inconsistency in finding greens in regulation has been his weakness, so he'll need to clean up his irons.

The putter is undoubtedly Hall's best club. He's ranked second in putting average and one-putt percentage, while leading the PGA Tour in putts per round this season. It's led to him posting the second-best scoring average (69.03) per round, second on par 4s and third in birdie average.

Hall didn't play this event in 2024 but posted a lackluster T60 finish during his only appearance in 2023. However, he's one of the most dominant golfers when it comes to the short game, making Hall a bonafide sleeper pick.

Aaron Rai (+6500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Scottish Open odds

Aaron Rai had a lot of production during the 2024 Scottish Open, carding a T4 finish at 14-under-par. The 30-year-old Englishman only has one top 10 finish on the PGA Tour in 2025 but leads the PGA Tour in driving accuracy.

He's ranked 21st at finding greens in regulation at 69.4 percent, eighth on par 4s and 22nd SG: Off-the-Tee. Rai is 46th SG: Approach, which balances his sub-par short game.

Rai has not played during the last two PGA Tour events, so he's got plenty of rest and training under his belt during his return to the Renaissance Club. The last time Rai played, he posted a solid T17 finish during the Travelers Championship.

The short game leaves a lot to be desired. Rai also lacks distance off-the-tee, which explains why he's 65-1 after a T4 finish at this event in 2024. I'm still going to back one of the purest ball-strikers on the PGA Tour at this price.

Sungjae Im (+8000) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Scottish Open odds

It's been a volatile season for Sungjae Im on the PGA Tour. He's secured three top 10 finishes, yet he's currently struggling, either missing the cut or falling outside the top 50 in four consecutive events.

The 27-year-old South Korean native ranks 21st SG: Off-the-Tee, including 12th for driving accuracy. Im's putter has been red-hot, ranked ninth in putting average, eighth in putts per round and 21st in one-putt percentage.

Im's capable of converting birdies in bunches, ranked 39th in birdie average at 4.00 per round. The irons are the weak part of his game right now, so oddsmakers have him undervalued at 80-1 odds in the outright winner market.

Accurate driving and quality putting should go a long way at the Scottish Open, making Im a prime sleeper candidate.

Thriston Lawrence (+12500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Scottish Open odds

Thriston Lawrence challenged Xander Schauffele down the stretch during the 2024 Open Championship. The 28-year-old South African has climbed the leaderboard on a few PGA Tour events in 2025, while also playing on the DP World Tour.

Lawrence missed six straight cuts on the PGA Tour before a T12 at the U.S. Open and a T8 during the Rocket Classic. He's 31st in driving accuracy, while struggling with irons and short game.

Missing the cut last year is less than encouraging when it comes to backing Lawrence this week. However, he's playing good golf during the last month. This includes a combined -8-under-par in the first two rounds at the John Deere Classic, before settling for even par during the weekend.

Lawrence is definitely a longshot sleeper at 125-1 odds. Yet, he's got enough skill off-the-tee to avoid trouble, potentially positioning himself to make a run at winning the 2025 Scottish Open.
