Devils vs. Senators Prediction, Betting Pick and Latest Odds

Devils vs. Senators prediction and betting pick for Thursday night's game on ESPN+. The New Jersey Devils head to Canada for a clash with the Ottawa Senators in a potentially high-scoring battle. Can Jack Hughes and the Devils light up the scoreboard? Peter Alexis analyzes this matchup.

Devils vs. Senators Prediction, Betting Pick and Latest Odds

On Thursday night, the New Jersey Devils will visit Ottawa for a date with the Senators. Both teams are sporting winning records so far in this week-old NHL season, but the Devils have seen much more action than anyone else.

After starting the season in Prague with the 2024 NHL Global Series, the Devils picked up two key wins over the Buffalo Sabres before any team had seen real regular season games yet. They have now played in six total games to the Senators' three, and are warmed up with a 4-2 record.

Ottawa is dealing with serious injury troubles to start the season, and will hope to hang on until they can get all of their pieces back. They are 2-1 so far after an exciting win on Monday night, and are currently even odds to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference, while the Devils are heavily favored.

New Jersey Devils vs. Ottawa Senators Odds

The New Jersey Devils are solid road favorites at -140 on the moneyline tonight. They opened closer to -130, but have continued to steam after receiving a lot of action. Meanwhile, the total of 6.5 hasn't moved much, but is a customary number for the NHL and rarely goes much higher.

New Jersey Devils vs. Ottawa Senators Prediction

Despite all of the early season wins, the Devils have only gone over the full game total of 6.5 in one game of their six so far. It is usually due to a lack of the opponent keeping up in the scoring, but the Devils also scored only two goals in both of their losses to the Leafs and the Hurricanes. This trend of landing on six and going slightly under is not going to continue tonight, as this game could get busted open very early.

The Senators just gave up seven goals to the LA Kings and four goals to the Canadiens, and they will continue to struggle defensively tonight. Linus Ullmark is out with a strain, so backup goalie Anton Forsberg will be in net again after a disastrous start to his season on Monday night. He was in net for just nine shots early against the Kings, giving up three goals in that span before getting yanked. His replacement in Mads Sogaard didn't see much success either, giving up four more goals to the Kings before the Senators offense escaped in overtime.

We're also going to sprinkle on the Devils team total goals at over 3.5 (+115). There is solid value there at plus-money, and it offers some slight insurance in the event of a Devils 4-2 win that doesn't quite go over the 6.5 total. Coming off a high-scoring bonanza like that will be tough to suddenly tighten up against this potent Devils attack. Look for Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier to take advantage of the Senators' backups and net four or more goals tonight on the road. There should be no lack of offense tonight in this Devils vs. Senators showdown.
