Kings vs. Oilers Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest Stanley Cup Playoffs Odds for Game 3

The Los Angeles Kings hit the road with a 2-0 series lead over the defending Western Conference champions, the Edmonton Oilers. Game 3 will be played at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta on Friday night.

The Kings have scored six goals in each of their first two matchups against Stuart Skinner and the Oilers. Kings F Adrian Kempe, Andrei Kuzmenko and Anze Kopitar all have at least five points, while Quinton Byfield has also been a strong contributor in the offensive zone. Connor McDavid is Edmonton's point leader with four, while Leon Draisaitl leads the Oilers with two goals.

KINGS VS. OILERS PREDICTION

Oddsmakers appear bullish on Edmonton finding a way to overcome porous goaltending and avoid going down 3-0 to Los Angeles in this Western Conference First Round series. There's no doubt that Edmonton's weakness is its defense and goaltending, with Stuart Skinner posting an abysmal .810 save percentage through two starts.

We may see Calvin Pickard in the net for the Oilers tonight. Pickard went 22-10-1 as a starter in the regular season, finishing with a .900 save percentage and 2.71 GAA. These marks were both slightly better than Skinner, so don't be surprised to see a goalie switch for Game 3.

The Kings were among the best teams on home ice and it showed during Game 1 and Game 2. Los Angeles allowed Edmonton to mount a huge comeback in the 3rd period of Game 1, ultimately holding them off with a game-winner late in regulation. Then, the Kings dominated the Oilers from start to finish in Game 2.

Los Angeles is 17-19-5 on the road, compared to 33-6-4 at home. Edmonton is 25-13-3 at home, while going 23-18-2 on the road. The Oilers don't have nearly as big of an advantage playing on home ice in comparison to the Kings.

Despite a pedestrian road record, the Kings are 4-1 SU in their last five games played on the road. If Pickard winds up in the crease, we could see a much lower-scoring game. Los Angeles has incredible defensive depth and is boosted by goaltender Darcy Kuemper's quality play in between the pipes.

The goal total under has hit in nine of Edmonton's last 12 games played, excluding the first two games of this playoff series. The Oilers are 7-2 SU in their last nine home games against the Kings.

The Kings will be a popular pick tonight due to their dominance shown in this series, especially priced at +130 moneyline odds. It feels like a bit of a trap by oddsmakers, especially with the line opening at -130 on Edmonton, moving to its current -140 price. The goal total has bounced from 6.5 to 5.5 and is currently available at 6 and 6.5 on most sportsbooks.

The Oilers are desperate and need to figure out a way to contain the Kings' offense to avoid another loss. I just don't see how Edmonton breaks through the Los Angeles defense in Game 3. Let's play this conservatively and bet a unit on Los Angeles to cover +1 at -154 odds.
