The Dallas Stars will host the Colorado Avalanche in a high-stakes Game 7 tilt to advance past the First Round of the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs tonight. Despite winning two games at home in this series, oddsmakers are valuing the Avalanche as a marginal road favorite on the moneyline at -155 odds.
Under head coach Peter DeBoer, Dallas is 8-0 in Game 7 matchups entering tonight's home game at American Airlines Center. Colorado head coach, Jared Bednar, has been ice cold in these scenarios, sitting with an 0-3 record in Game 7s.
It's been a back-and-forth series between two Western Conference Central Division rivals. The Avalanche dominated the Stars on the road during a 5-1 win in Game 1. Then, the Stars logged back-to-back wins in overtime, before Colorado shutdown Dallas' offense with a 4-0 victory at Ball Arena in Denver during Game 4.
The Stars struck nine seconds into Game 5 to build an insurmountable lead, going up 3-2 in this series with a 6-2 win. Most recently, in Game 6, Colorado went up 2-0, then Dallas tied it 2-2. The Avalanche took a brief 3-2 lead, before surrendering two more 2nd period goals to fall down 4-3. Colorado came out and dominated the 3rd period, scoring four goals to wind up with a 7-4 victory on home ice in Game 6.

Avalanche vs. Stars Prediction
If Game 7 is anything like what we've seen transpire during the first six games of this series, expect a rollercoaster ride at American Airlines Center tonight. The Stars are home underdogs, despite going 2-1 defending home ice against the Avalanche during this First Round playoff matchup.
DeBoer definitely has more confidence based on how well the Stars have performed under him in these high-pressure Game 7 environments. Of course, the best player on the ice tonight will be Colorado C Nathan MacKinnon, who leads all teams with 10 points and six goals.
Goaltending was thrown out the window in Game 6. Mackenzie Blackwood and Jake Oettinger were both turn-styles in between the pipes, surrendering nine total goals.
The continued absence of Miro Heiskanen and Jason Robertson looms large heading into Game 7 for Dallas. The Stars have managed to elevate their production on offense since being held to one goal in Game 1 and shutout in Game 4.
Former Avalanche and current Stars forward, Mikko Rantanen, has been heating up. Rantanen leads Dallas with eight points, including two goals. Roope Hintz is the Stars' leading goal scorer with four. Wyatt Johnston, Thomas Harley and Tyler Seguin are Dallas' other multi-goal scorers.
Colorado has seven players with four to five points. In comparison, Dallas has four players with at least four points in this series. The Avalanche have outshot the Stars 214-167, making life significantly harder for Dallas goaltender, Jake Oettinger.
Oddsmakers are currently bullish on Colorado to continue building off of their season-saving Game 6 win. However, I'm not as confident.
The Avalanche blew a lead twice in Game 6, while playing on home ice. They were dominated at American Airlines Center during their last trip in Game 5, falling into an early 3-0 deficit. Colorado also lost Game 2 in overtime at this venue.
The Stars never quit and they'll be ready to roll with a confident head coach and a raucous home crowd. We saw Dallas tie the game late in regulation in Game 2 and Game 3. Then, in Game 5, they built a huge lead early to drain momentum from Colorado.
The Stars grabbed the lead late in the 2nd period during Game 6, before allowing Colorado to score twice in a three-minute span in the 3rd period. I doubt the Avalanche will be able to replicate that feat if they fall into a deficit late in Game 7.
Oettinger has shown high upside in the crease at times, while Blackwood's been a bit pedestrian aside from his shutout in Game 4. I love the home underdog tonight, so let's bet a unit on the Dallas Stars to win Game 7 at +140 odds.
