Anna Blinkova faces off with Rebeka Masarova in the second round of the ASB Classic. Can Blinkova continue her dominance? Handicapper LearLocks gives us his best tennis bet ahead of Wednesday's match.
ANALYSIS

ASB Classic Prediction, Pick: Anna Blinkova vs. Rebeka Masarova Best Bet

Anna Blinkova has slowly risen up the rankings in the last couple of months.

Blinkova has been playing her best tennis recently and is in good shape and form. She has played well in Auckland and now faces off with Rebeka Masarova, who just had one of the biggest wins of her career against American Sloane Stephens.

This should be a very good match in Auckland, New Zealand. Look for Blinkova to continue to show her dominance.

Let's break down my pick for this match.

Anna Blinkova vs. Rebeka Masarova Prediction

One thing about these early-in-the-year tournaments is you try to bet on the players who have played tennis consistently over the last couple of weeks, especially when it gets to the later rounds. Those who have consistently played are in way better form and shape for these matches. This is one of the reasons why I give the advantage to Anna Blinkova.

Blinkova had a pretty rough 2022, but she played her best tennis later in the year and is now in the top 75 in the rankings. She is trying to stay this high in the rankings so that she doesn’t have to qualify for the majors. She has played some very good tennis recently too, and this court is her style of play. Blinkova loves to smash the ball and thrives on fast courts. This is a perfect court for her style.

She faces off against Rebeka Masarova, who has been playing many matches lately. This should be a very good matchup between two players separated by 40 spots in the rankings.

Sloane Stephens looked like she didn’t care at all in the matchup against Masarova, and when she plays like that, she is so easy to beat. Masarova took full advantage of that and beat her easily.

Blinkova has a lot of talent. I love her style of play, and if she can put it all together, she could make a run at the top 50 this season. She is only 24 years old and has very good power and shot placement. She is overall the better-skilled player in this match and has shown she likes playing on this surface.

Blinkova knocked out a good player, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, in the last round in a very good match. She found herself down early and was able to come back and win that matchup.

The power of Blinkova will be way too much for Masarova to handle in this one. Masarova is a big-time doubles player too, so seeing her make it this far in a singles tournament is kind of surprising to me.

Let’s back Anna Blinkova in this matchup.
