4 Minute ReadTommy Paul vs. Arthur Fils Prediction: Can Tommy Paul Pull Slight Upset in Miami Open Quarterfinal on Wednesday Night?
The Miami Open quarterfinals bring an intriguing matchup Wednesday night as No. 22 Tommy Paul takes on No. 28 Arthur Fils for a spot in the semifinals. Paul enters as a +114 underdog, while Fils is favored at -137, a reflection of the Frenchman’s recent surge and rising status on tour. This one is set for the evening session at Hard Rock Stadium, with first serve expected around 8:30 p.m. ET.
Paul does have one key piece of history working in his favor. He won the only previous meeting between the two players back in 2023, taking it in three sets, and now gets another shot on home soil in one of the biggest matches of his season. The question is whether he can keep the momentum rolling after a dominant Round of 16 performance, or whether Fils’ recent form is strong enough to flip the script this time.

Tommy Paul vs. Arthur Fils Prediction
Paul comes into this quarterfinal playing some of his best tennis of 2026. He reached the Delray Beach final earlier this season and has built a 15-6 record on the year, then backed that up in Miami with wins over Adrian Mannarino, Raphael Collignon, and a 6-1, 6-3 blowout of Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the Round of 16. That last result is especially important because it suggests he is finding another gear at the right time after two tougher early-round matches.
Fils has been excellent as well, which is why this line is so tight. He has put together a strong 2026 that included a run to the quarterfinals in Dubai, and in Miami he has beaten Dino Prizmic, Marton Fucsovics, and Felix Auger-Aliassime to reach this stage. His tournament run has shown the full package, with clean serving, aggressive forehand play, and the ability to hold up in pressure moments against established competition.
Stylistically, this looks like a very competitive match. Paul is the more proven defender and mover, and when he is dictating with his forehand and making opponents hit extra balls, he becomes very hard to beat on American hard courts. Fils, though, brings more outright power and has been one of the more dangerous young players on tour when he is landing first serves and playing first-strike tennis. The numbers from this week suggest both men have been producing strong serve and groundstroke quality, which usually points toward a match with very little separation.
That is why the value side here is Paul. He has already proven he can beat Fils, he has the crowd behind him, and he looked far more comfortable in his Round of 16 win than he did earlier in the tournament. Fils absolutely deserves respect, but with Paul coming off a blowout performance and playing some of his steadiest tennis of the year, the American has a real chance to pull this off. A long match would not be surprising at all, but if it gets deep, Paul’s experience in these spots could matter.
