Jacquet opened qualifying with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory over Portuguese wild card Goncalo Da Rosa Castro. He then lost the qualifying final to Taro Daniel 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, but entered the main draw as a lucky loser. Jacquet took advantage of that opportunity by rallying past recent Umag champion Daniel Merida 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 in the Round of 32.
That comeback was impressive, but it also continued a physically demanding week. Jacquet has now played eight sets across three matches, including consecutive three-set battles. He recovered after being overwhelmed in the opening set against Merida, but falling behind that sharply against Blockx could produce a much different result.
Blockx received a first-round bye as the No. 4 seed, so this will be his first match of the tournament. The lack of a competitive Estoril appearance creates some uncertainty, but the rest advantage is considerable.
