Celtics vs Warriors Picks and Prediction: Defending Champs Visit a Shorthanded Chase Center

The Boston Celtics, sitting 2nd in the Eastern Conference at 35-19, travel to face 8th-placed Golden State at Chase Center on Thursday, February 19, tipping off at 10:00 PM ET. With the Celtics riding a 6-1 stretch heading into the All-Star break behind Jaylen Brown's MVP-caliber 29.3 PPG campaign and the NBA's 2nd-ranked defense, this matchup pits a title contender operating at full steam against a Warriors squad limping into the second half of the season without Steph Curry (knee) and Jimmy Butler, sitting 25-30 ATS and having lost four of their last six as two franchises trending in opposite directions open the 2025-26 stretch run at Chase Center.

Celtics vs Warriors Recent Performance

Boston sits 2nd in the East at 35-19 and enters the second half of its season on a heater, winning six of its last seven games. Jaylen Brown's MVP-level campaign (29.3 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 4.7 APG) and a defense allowing just 108.4 PPG (2nd in NBA) have kept the Celtics firmly in title contention, even without Jayson Tatum. The trade deadline addition of Nikola Vucevic (16.7 PPG, 9.0 RPG) gives Boston another interior option, and Derrick White continues adding 17.2 PPG plus elite two-way production off the perimeter.

Golden State sits 8th in the West at 29-26, and has alternated wins and losses over its last four games. The Warriors fell to San Antonio 126-113 in their last outing before the break, and have lost four of their last six. Without Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler, the offense leans heavily on Brandin Podziemski (12.0 PPG) and Draymond Green (8.6 PPG, 5.2 APG) to keep possessions alive.

Celtics vs Warriors Head to Head

These two franchises have split their season series in each of the last four years. Tonight is their first meeting this year. Historically, games between Boston and Golden State have been high-scoring, with five of the last six regular season matchups clearing 225 combined points, averaging 232.5 over that stretch.

Celtics vs Warriors Team News

Boston enters without Jayson Tatum, still working his way back from a torn Achilles suffered last May. The good news: he was practicing 5-on-5 with G League Maine Celtics earlier this week and Bill Simmons has March 1 circled on his calendar. Tatum has said he wants his return to be a home game, so tonight he's watching. The starting five tonight: Derrick White, Baylor Scheierman, Jaylen Brown, Sam Hauser, Neemias Queta. With Vucevic's debut adding another scoring option in the frontcourt, this is a complete roster even without its franchise player.

Golden State is working through a stacked injury report. Steph Curry (knee) is out. Jimmy Butler is also unavailable. Kristaps Porzingis (Achilles) is listed as questionable for his Warriors debut after coming over at the deadline. Without Curry, the Warriors' offense drops from a top-tier attack to one that leans on Podziemski, Draymond Green's playmaking, and Al Horford's floor spacing (7.6 PPG). Kerr will need Podziemski to have a career night to keep this competitive.

Prediction: Celtics 113, Warriors 109

Boston's defense (2nd in NBA at 108.4 PPG allowed) matches up well against a Warriors squad that averages just 112.0 PPG in away scenarios and hasn't shown it can generate elite half-court offense without Curry. Brown is the best player on the floor by a significant margin, and Vucevic gives the Celtics a matchup advantage in the post that Golden State doesn't have an answer for.

The Celtics are 23-4 ATS and 25-2 overall when they score above 113.7 points. Their road net rating (+7.2) remains elite. Expect a comfortable Boston win, though Golden State's pace at home and Podziemski's effort keeps it from being a blowout.

Best Bet: Warriors (+5.5) (-100) Click here to get the best odds at BetMGM Sportsbook

The value here is with Golden State, not against them. The line moved two full points from -3.5 to -5.5 after Curry's status was confirmed, meaning the market already priced in the biggest variable. What hasn't been fully priced in: Chase Center home court, Golden State's 7 of last 8 home games played to the over, and the fact that the Celtics cover at 15-12 when favored by 5.5 or more (not exactly a dominant number). Tight losses are Warriors' specialty this season, they won't go quietly in front of their own crowd.
