A three-time winner when trained in Britain, the gelding dropped a good way in the handicap before finishing second in a Laytown claimer. Having given the impression that he had more to offer when shaping nicely here subsequently, the four-year-old can strike under Dylan Browne McMonagle. Just touched off here last time, Boston Max has to be a serious contender in first-time cheekpieces and has every chance of giving jockey Nina Doherty a breakthrough success. Sovereign Banter needs to improve, but returning to this venue could well help him do so.
