Next Peterborough Manager Odds: McCann favourite for fast Championship return

Grant McCann is the 1/2 favourite in the next Peterborough manager market after Darren Ferguson quit with the club in serious danger of relegation from the Championship.

McCann, who was second favourite in the next Sunderland manager market both when Roy Keane appeared likely to take over at the Stadium of Light and just before Alex Neil actually took the job earlier this month, looks to have found his next job with Peterborough United – who sit 23rd in the Championship table and level on points with Wayne Rooney’s Derby County.

McCann set for quick return to work

He was sacked by his last club Hull City at the end of January, less than a week after the club was taken over by the Turkey-based Acun Medya Group. Interestingly, Hull have taken just one point from five since winning the first match after McCann’s sacking, and now sit just three places above Peterborough, albeit with a healthy 13-point buffer on the bottom three. Barnsley are rooted to the foot of the Championship table with just three wins and 17 points from 31 matches.

Who are the other contenders?

The other contenders to take over the Posh include Michael Duff (best price 11/1) and Lee Johnson (12/1). Ironically it was Johnson’s sacking at Sunderland just five days after McCann’s own dismissal from Hull which brought McCann straight back to the interview table in early February.

Ferguson, son of legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex, brought his third spell with Peterborough to an end after a phone call with club chief Darragh MacAnthony on Sunday.

Peterborough’s precarious league position

The club have failed to win in the last two months, winning just five of their 31 league matches since promotion from League One at the end of last season. Only bottom club Barnsley (19) have scored fewer Championship goals than Peterborough’s 23, whose goal difference is a league worst -38.
