Steven Gerrard is the 7/1 second favourite in the revised Premier League sack race odds but could under pressure again if Villa fail to beat Southampton tonight.
Following a disappointing start to the Premier League season, Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is still the second favourite (7/1 best price) in the next manager to leave market despite buying himself some time with the performance his team produced in the 1-1 draw with champions Manchester City.
Villa have only won one game so far against fellow strugglers Everton, and despite the draw against Manchester City, they only have four points to show from their first six games. Fans are frustrated with Gerrard tending to pick Philippe Coutinho over Emilia Buendia, whose presence in the team has tended to correlate with Villa’s better performances.

Gerrard also took the captain’s armband off Tyrone Mings and dropped the defender, only for new signing Diego Carlos to be ruled out with a ruptured Achilles in their second game.
At the time of writing, he is the second favourite in the revised Premier League sack race (initially won by Scott Parker) behind Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers (1/2) - Steve Cooper comes third at 8/1 - but might that change if tonight’s favourable looking fixture against Southampton goes the wrong way?
After Villa’s defeat to Arsenal, some bookmakers had Gerrard as short as 5/4 to be the next manager to leave his post, but he is back up to 7/1 owing slightly to the performance shown against City but more so because of the precarious looking plight for Rodgers at Leicester – the team Villa were due to face last weekend before the sad passing of the Queen caused a round of postponements.
Gerrard’s side do have some favourable fixtures coming up, with tonight’s home match with Southampton followed by trips to Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.
