Chris Wilder is the favourite to replace Michael Appleton in the next Blackpool manager odds market.
Blackpool have relieved Michael Appleton of his duties after a 10 game winless run, which has left them in 23rd place in the table. Appleton took over in the summer, but he has only managed six wins in 27 Championship games with the Tangerines, with Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Watford proving to be the final match of his second spell in charge of the club.
This is Appleton’s second spell in charge of Blackpool, however, in his first spell, he resigned after only 65 days to take the vacant job at Blackburn, which may have come as a sting to many Blackpool fans.
Their last victory in the Championship was back in October away at Coventry, and they will be looking for another permanent manager who can help them to avoid the drop into League One, where they got promoted through the playoffs in 2021. Blackpool host Huddersfield in their next Championship game this weekend.
Who are the favourites to replace Appleton at Blackpool?
Chris Wilder
The former Middlesborough manager is the favourite at 2/1 to replace Appleton at Bloomfield Road. Wilder was sacked on 3rd October 2022 with Boro in the bottom three of the Championship, ending his 11-month stint at the Riverside Stadium. They had won only two of 11 league games played in the 2022/23 season, and has been out of a job since.
Many Blackpool fans will look to his Sheffield United spell with more optimism, where the Blades got promoted to the Premier League in 2019 before being relegated after two seasons, where Wilder left the club by mutual consent in March 2021.

Liam Manning
The former MK Dons manager is the second favourite behind Wilder at 8/1. At the end of his first season, Manning had led the club to a third-place finish with 89 points and playoff qualification, having missed out on automatic promotion by a single point, before losing out to Wycombe Wanderers in the League One playoff semi-final stage.
Following that near miss into the Championship, Manning was sacked after accumulating just 15 points from 20 games, leaving them bottom of the table. His 48% win rate at MK Dons may be something the Blackpool fans can hope he can replicate at Bloomfield Road to push the Tangerines up the table away from the drop.
Grant McCann
McCann was recently sacked as Peterborough United manager just two weeks ago but comes in at 10/1 for the job at Blackpool. After failing to keep the Posh up in the Championship last season, they sat five points off the playoffs before being sacked.
He has had ups and downs in his managerial career, especially at Hull City, where they were relegated from the Championship, but came back immediately as League One champions in the 2020-21 season.
Neil Warnock
Neil Warnock is next in the list at 10/1 to replace Michael Appleton as the next Blackpool manager, despite announcing his retirement in April after 42 years and 1,603 matches in the dugout. His last job was with Middlesbrough, where he returned a win percentage of 38.7% from 75 matches.
He left the Teesside club in 15th place in the Championship but only four points off the playoffs. Could Warnock have one more role left in him?

Leam Richardson
The former Wigan manager also comes in at 10/1, after being sacked by the Latics in November 2022. Richardson had lost six of his last seven at Wigan, but it was a surprise to many after he had signed a new three-year deal just 16 days before his dismissal.
Richardson’s former club Wigan are the only side below Blackpool in the Championship at the moment, as they sit a sole point above them, but Blackpool did lose to them two days after Richardson’s dismissal.
