Mourinho has been out of a job since being sacked by AS Roma in January following a poor run of form. The ‘Special One’ spent two and a half years with the Italian club before leaving them 9th in Serie A after 20 matches played in the 2023/24 season.

His contract was due to expire in June 2024 but the club moved early after a run of just one win in the last six Serie A matches. Mourinho was also sent off as Roma were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by city rivals Lazio.

Now 61 years of age, Mourinho joined Roma in 2021 and led them to the Europa Conference League title in 2022 - his first season in charge. He won 68 of his 138 matches.

Mourinho’s name has been put forward as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool after Ruben Amorim – previously considered a shoo in to replace the German at Anfield – saw his odds drift in the face of rumours linking him with the West Ham job.
