US Open Odds & UK Tee Times: Scheffler strongest favourite since Tiger in 2009

US Open Odds & UK Tee Times: Scheffler strongest favourite since Tiger in 2009

The world number one is the big favourite to win the US Open after bagging the PGA Championship title last month.

At the current odds of 11/4, Scottie Scheffler is the shortest priced favourite to win the US Open since Tiger Woods in 2009.

In 2009, Woods came in as reigning US Open champion and was priced at 7/4 to win at Bethpage that year, eventually finishing T6.

Scheffler has passed the price he was in 2024 to win the US Open of 29/10. You can still back him at 3/1 on AK Bets to prevail at Oakmont this week.

US Open Odds – Year by Year

Year Favourite to win US Open Odds
2025 Scottie Scheffler 11/4
2024 Scottie Scheffler 29/10
2023 Scottie Scheffler 7/1
2022 Rory McIlroy 11/1
2021 Dustin Johnson 10/1
2020 Dustin Johnson 8/1
2019 D Johnson / Koepka 8/1
2018 Dustin Johnson 9/1
2017 Dustin Johnson 7/1
2016 J Day / McIlroy 7/1
2015 Rory McIlroy 7/1
2014 Rory McIlroy 10/1
2013 Tiger Woods 9/2
2012 Tiger Woods 7/1
2011 Lee Westwood 11/1
2010 Mickelson / Woods 15/2
2009 Tiger Woods 7/4

Unsurprisingly, Scheffler is the most popular bet across oddschecker to win this year’s renewal at Oakmont, with 7.3% of all bets backing him for victory. That figure is less than half of the bets he received in 2024, when he had 14.9% of all bets backing him.

Find out who oddschecker experts Niall Lyons and Ginger Joe are backing this week.

US Open Betting – Most Backed Golfers

US Open Winner Odds % of bets on OC last 7 days
Scottie Scheffler 11/4 7.3%
Ludvig Aberg 25/1 6.4%
Bryson DeChambeau 7/1 5.3%
Shane Lowry 40/1 5%
Sepp Straka 40/1 5%

Being the pre-tournament favourite hasn’t boded well in recent history, with Tiger Woods in 2008 the last golfer to win the US Open coming in as the betting favourite.

There has also been a notable lack of support for Rory McIlroy this week, currently the eight most popular bet to win. The largest bet we’ve taken on the tournament this week is for him to Miss the Cut at 3/1

Leon Blackman from oddschecker said: “Ahead of the US Open this week, bookmakers in the UK are protecting themselves against a signature Scottie Scheffler performance.

“Winning three of his last four starts has given oddsmakers no choice but to price Scheffer similarly to prime Tiger at under 3/1. Scheffler backers will be hoping he can break the 17-year hoodoo of betting favourites being unable to win the US Open.”
