Cheltenham Most-Backed: Shishkin and Teeshan Headline the Week’s Most Popular Bets

The most popular bets placed through oddschecker this week for the Cheltenham Festival 2024.

Fresh off the back of a Denman Chase win over the weekend, Shishkin makes an appearance in our 10 most backed horses on oddschecker between the 5th and 12th of February.

Nicky Henderson’s 10-year-old bounced back from a disappointing King George Chase showing to grab a 4 ½ length victory over Hitman in the Denman.

Since that victory, Shishkin has been the most-backed horse for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, taking 44.3% of all bets placed since Saturday.

Galopin Des Champs remains the odds-on favourite to secure a second successive Gold Cup in March (best price Evens on Betfred).

Another horse making waves in the Cheltenham betting following the weekend’s racing is Paul Nicholls’ Teeshan.

A dominant seven-length victory in the flat race at Exeter on Sunday saw Teeshan’s odds cut from 16/1 to 7/1 for the Champion Bumper

Since Teeshan’s victory on Sunday, the five-year-old has been the most popular bumper bet on oddschecker, amassing 40% of total bets.

The Bumper currently stands as one of the more open betting heats with Jalon D’Oudairies the favourite at current NRNB odds of 5/1 (6/1 best price on Sky Bet).

Another big market mover in our 10 most backed bets is A J Martin’s Good Time Jonny, who has seen his odds cut from 16/1 to 5/1 for the Kim Muir.

49% of all bets placed in the last seven days on oddschecker have backed Good Time Jonny to win the Kim Muir.

For a fourth consecutive week, Ballyburn tops the list of our most backed Cheltenham bets as Willie Mullins’ six-year-old is now as short as 10/11 for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

Quote from oddschecker’s Leon Blackman: “Another week of Ballyburn dominating the Cheltenham Festival betting on oddschecker as he tops our most backed bets for a fourth week on the trot.

"Over those four weeks, Ballyburn’s odds have shortened from 8/1 to the 10/11 favourite for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. This week he leads all bets with 9% of all placed between the 5th and the 12th of February.

"After winning the Denman Chase at Newbury, Shishkin has put himself seventh on our list of popular bets. Since Saturday’s victory, Shiskin has been the most popular bet for the Gold Cup, garnering 44.3% of all bets placed. Nicky Henderson’s 10-year-old currently sits as the third favourite in the betting market with Non-Runner No Bet (NRNB) odds of 9/1.

"Another British winner to note from the weekend is Paul Nicholls’ Teeshan, who has emerged as a leading candidate for the Champion Bumper. A seven-length victory in the flat race at Exeter on Sunday saw bookies slash Teeshan’s odds for the Bumper from 16/1 to 7/1. Jalon D’Oudairies is the 5/1 favourite for what looks like an open betting heat next month.”
