Betting tips, undercard and expected start time for the heavyweight fight between Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker in Manchester.
Joe Joyce vs Joseph Parker
Number one WBO Heavyweight Joe Joyce faces potentially his toughest opponent yet as he takes on the experienced New Zealander Joseph Parker in Manchester on Saturday night.
The 14-0 Joyce comes into this bout as the odds-on (4/7 best price) favourite to continue his unbeaten streak and earn himself a shot at the WBO title.
Parker, on the other hand, will look to upset the odds and get the win in his sixth fight on English soil to put his name in contention for a title shot.
Joe Joyce vs Joseph Parker Betting Tips
There is no disguise to how Joyce approaches his fights. Self-proclaimed the “Juggernaut”, he will be on the front foot and looking to rock Parker from the get-go. His rigid style, matched with a lack of head movement, allows Joyce to absorb shots and continue stepping forward against his opponents.
Against Daniel Dubois in his toughest test to date, Joyce took heavy damage throughout the fight, before unleashing and getting the knockout, fracturing Dubois’ eye socket for good measure.
The challenge posed by Parker is one he wouldn’t have faced before. Parker is regarded as one of the best technical heavyweights and Joyce’s vulnerability to taking shots may cost him losing a couple of early rounds against the Kiwi.
Parker, however, will be mindful of the power in the hands of Joyce and will need to keep away from the Englishman’s jab if he wants to avoid being KO’d (13 of Joyce’s 14 wins have come by KO).
I can see two potential outcomes of this fight and the two tips below cover those.
Joe Joyce to win in Rounds 7-12 @ 5/1 – 1pt
There is undoubted knockout power in the hands of Joyce. Parker and his camp know it. The Joyce camp, on the other hand, will know Parker can be rocked (knocked down twice vs Chisora) and despite the fact Joyce may lose some early rounds due to Parker’s greater mobility, the game plan will remain the same - go for the knockout.
If the fight goes the distance, I can only see Parker picking up the win on points. However, Joyce’s heavy jabs and dangerous counters have stopped nearly every opponent he’s faced so far, and this fate could be the same for Parker. 5/1 for Parker to be stopped between Rounds 7-12 seems very generous odds and that will be where I’ll be playing my 1pt for Saturday night.
Joseph Parker to win by Decision or Technical Decision @ 10/3 – 0.5pts
I believe if you are a Joseph Parker backer and want a play for the Kiwi Saturday night this is it. Technically, he is one of the most gifted heavyweight boxers in the world however, he is just lacking that knockout power. Especially against Joyce, who has proved in fights against Dubois and Hammer that he can take hits from more powerful punches than Parker.
At times it may be like cat and mouse, with Parker looking to land points and combinations while avoiding the jab of Joyce. At one stage in the fight, he will have to absorb Joyce’s pressure but if he is able to withstand this and land significant strikes through the 12 rounds, Parker could pick up a big victory for him on points.
