This year’s Gold Cup Chase promises an exciting three-way battle, with Jango Baie, Gaelic Warrior, and The Jukebox Man leading the betting market as the favourites.
Friday’s feature race at Prestbury Park is the blue ribbon event of the Cheltenham Festival. The Cheltenham Gold Cup (16:00, 3m 2f 70y) brings together a high-class field of stayers in one of the most competitive renewals in recent memory. With going described as good to soft in places and prize money in excess of £350,000 on offer, this is where the stamina and jumping precision of a Gold Cup-class chaser is truly tested.
Gaelic Warrior heads the betting after a strong season that includes Group 1 success and solid runs in key trials. Trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by Paul Townend, he brings proven stamina and jumping ability to the Gold Cup and has been well backed in the market.
Close behind are Jango Baie and The Jukebox Man, both showing impressive staying form this season. Jango Baie, the 2025 Arkle winner, has adapted well to longer trips, while The Jukebox Man’s narrow King George VI Chase win makes him a serious Gold Cup contender and a popular choice with punters.

Expert Betting Tips for the Gold Cup Chase
Jake Price: Gaelic Warrior
As soon as the sad news came out that Galopin Des Champs was out of the Gold Cup I went straight to the bookmakers in order to back GAELIC WARRIOR – as it all but confirmed that Paul Townend would be taking the ride. Had Galopin ran the talk was that he wouldn’t be able to get off that horse in favour of one of Rich Ricci’s stable stars, but my confidence is now greatly enhanced.
His victory over Fact To File in the John Durkan back in November was some performance from the front, and when contesting the slowly run King George on Boxing Day he was only beaten a short head by The Jukebox Man. That race didn’t really fall right for him all in all, but I would say that you can mark up all of the first four home that day.
Steve Ryder - Jango Baie
This is a fascinating edition of the Cheltenham Gold Cup with the King George VI Chase from Kempton on Boxing Day looking the key form line. The Jukebox Man beat both Gaelic Warrior and Jango Baie by a narrow margin that day but the fourth looked the most inconvenienced by how the race was run.
Slightly slow jumps at both the third last and second last obstacles meant Jango Baie couldn’t close off a slow pace and the Nicky Henderson trained seven-year-old is unbeaten in his two starts at Cheltenham including a last gasp victory in the Arkle Challenge Trophy last season.
Road to Cheltenham - Gaelic Warrior
I’ve been banging the drum for GAELIC WARRIOR in the Cheltenham Gold Cup all year long and I put him up at 16/1 for the race in my Oddschecker season preview. He has an excellent opportunity and Paul Townend will be in the saddle – which is a huge positive.
Taking nothing away from the winner, I felt he was unlucky in the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park but he can make amends here. The extra distance will be of no concern and a drop of rain will surely enhance his chances too. He has a lot going for him.
