Carlos Beltran Is the Favorite To Be the New Mets Manager

After just two years as New York Mets manager, Luis Rojas is out of a job. Over the two seasons, he went 103-119 for a .464 win percentage. Expectations were high for Rojas who took over a team trending in the right direction after 2019.

In the shortened 2020 season, they finished fourth in the National League East, and then this year, the Mets downright collapsed in the second half. As recently as August 13, the Mets were in first place but they made the wrong kind of history this year.

They are the first team in league history to spend as much time as they did in first place (103 days) and still finish with a losing record. Yes, there were key injuries to this team but someone had to be held accountable and that was Rojas.

So who will be the next Mets manager, well the odds are out, and leading the back is a familiar face.

Odds for next Mets Manager

Carlos Beltran is leading the pack at +400. This is a familiar face because he was originally hired by the Mets before the 2019 season. He was introduced eight days before The Athletic dropped the report of the Houston Astros cheating scandal.

As a result, the Mets decided to move on and cut bait. Well if A.J. Hinch and Alex Cora can manage again in this league why not give Beltran another shot? Apparently, oddsmakers agree with that logic.

Some other notable names on the list include Bob Melvin who has been the Oakland Athletics Manager for 11 seasons and has a .528 win percentage over that span. He has the connection to Sandy Alderson and potentially Billy Beane if he decides to leave and work for the Mets.

Buck Showalter, Bruce Bochy, and Ron Washington round out the list of managers with experience and a winning track record before you get to some longshots like David Wright, Dwight Gooden, and Darryl Strawberry.
