We're just days away from crowning a College World Series champion. That means that the MLB Draft is almost here.
Some guys I'll mention below are still playing in the CWS, looking to add some hardware to their collection before even being drafted.
The Draft is scheduled to begin on July 17.
2023 MLB First-Round Mock Draft
1. Pirates: Dylan Crews, OF, LSU
Dylan Crews can do it all. He's stayed at LSU from the get-go and now has them on the brink of earning a College World Series.
There hasn't been a single game where Crews hasn't reached base throughout the season, including the postseason. He's got plenty of pop, has great speed, and is terrific in center field as a fielder.
He's the best guy on the board.
2. Nationals: Paul Skenes, SP, LSU
Paul Skenes, a teammate of Crews', will be next off the board. Skenes is one of the most dominant arms we've ever seen in the college ranks. Scouts suggest that he could pitch for a team in the second half of the 2023 season.
3. Tigers: Wyatt Langford, OF, Florida
Wyatt Langford is another top college bat that will come off the board. It's going to be a college-heavy first round, which is one of the more interesting developments of this year's draft.
Langford will likely play one of the corner outfield positions in the MLB. But he'll still be a middle-of-the-order bat with more speed than a lot of guys batting in the middle of the order.
4. Rangers: Walker Jenkins, OF, South Brunswick High (N.C.)
The Rangers will get the first high schooler. Texas doesn't always select high school players, but with the top three college guys off the board, they'll pivot to the best on the board.
That's easily Walker Jenkins. He's a five-tool player that will likely fit in center field in the MLB.
5. Twins: Max Clark, OF, Franklin Community High (Ind.)
If you're the Twins, you must be happy landing Max Clark with the fifth overall selection. Clark doesn't have the power that the other guys drafted in front of him have. But he's got the ability to make up for it with his speed.
6. Athletics: Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee
7. Reds: Rhett Lowder, RHP, Wake Forest
8: Royals: Jacob Wilson, SS, Grand Canyon
9. Rockies: Kyle Teel, C, Virginia
10. Marlins: Jacob Gonzalez, SS, Ole Miss
11. Angels: Enrique Bradfield, OF, Vanderbilt
12. Diamondbacks: Colin Houck, SS Parkview HS (Georgia)
13. Cubs: Kevin McGonigle, SS, Monsignor Bonner HS (Aldan, PA)
14. Red Sox: Yohandy Morales, 3B, Miami
15. White Sox: Blake Mitchell, C, Sinton High (Texas)
16. Giants: Tommy Troy, SS, Stanford
17: Orioles: Nolan Schanuel, 1B, Florida Atlantic
18. Brewers: Chase Davis, LF, Arizona
19. Rays: Noble Meyer, SP, Jesuit High (Ore.)
20. Blue Jays: Dillon Head, CF, Homewood-Flossmoor High (Ill.)
21. Cardinals: Hurston Waldrep, RHP, Florida
22. Mariners: Brock Wilken, 3B, Wake Forest
23. Guardians: Colt Emerson, SS, Glenn HS (Ohio)
24. Braves: Walker Martin, SS Eaton HS (Colorado)
25. Padres: George Lombard Jr., SS, Gulliver Prep (Fla.)
26. Yankees: Sammy Stafura, SS, Panas HS (New York)
27: Phillies: Travis Sykora, RHP, Round Rock HS
28: Astros: Matt Shaw, 2B, Maryland
29: Mariners: Brayden Taylor, 3B, TCU
