Michigan being the betting favorite to win over TCU isn’t that surprising. They’re 7.5-point favorites and given -300 odds or an implied 75% chance to win outright. The betting is certainly tighter than that, with Michigan seeing 53.3% of total bets compared to TCU’s 46.7%. However, that’s about what would be expected here. About a 50/50 split with the favorite getting the slight edge. The same isn’t true in the other game.

Georgia is actually a slightly smaller favorite at -7 with -260 odds, or an implied 72.2% chance to get the victory. But it’s Ohio State who’s a runaway favorite on the betting market. The Buckeyes have seen 66.7% of bets to be only the third 4th seed to ever win, joining 2017 Alabama and 2015 Ohio State.

Of course, the sportsbooks aren’t convinced. Georgia is currently given -130 odds, or an implied 56.5% chance to become the first team to win back-to-back national titles in the playoff era. Ohio State and Michigan are given +360 and +300 odds each, or an implied 21.7% and 25% chance. So even combined, they have a worse chance to win the national title than Georgia.

Sportsbooks aren’t big on TCU and bettors are looking to take advantage there, but even then it’s clear that they favor Michigan. That tracks logically. Bettors backing Ohio State to beat Georgia is a wild one, especially at the rate they’re doing it. Sure, no team has ever won back-to-back titles before in the playoff era, but just twice in the history of the playoffs has there been a title that didn’t include at least one team from the year prior: 2015 and 2020. There’s just too much historical evidence that would suggest that Ohio State has little chance against Georgia, including the fact Ohio State has never beaten Georgia. So, while bettors are preparing for a Big 10 rematch, the books are rightfully not convinced.
