Mason Rudolph Trade Rumors: Pittsburgh Steelers Receiving Trade Interest for Rudolph

The Pittsburgh Steelers have an excess at the quarterback position with Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, and Mason Rudolph. Teams have expressed interest in Mason Rudolph today as his trade rumors are beginning to swirl.

Mason Rudolph Trade Rumors: Pittsburgh Steelers Receiving Trade Interest for Rudolph

The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to start life without Ben Roethlisberger in 2022. They elected to sign Mitch Trubisky in NFL free agency as the veteran to pair with a rookie quarterback, Kenny Pickett.

That leaves off one very important name though, Mason Rudolph. Rudolph was a third-round pick in 2018 and has 10 career starts under his belt going 5-4-1. He has 16 touchdown passes to 11 picks and an 80.9 quarterback rating.

After paying Trubisky and drafting Pickett, it felt like Rudolph would be on his way out and that's exactly what's happening. The Steelers are fielding calls on Mason Rudolph today.

Through three games in the preseason, Mason Rudolph has looked really good. He went 26 of 39 (66.7%) for 220 yards and two touchdowns for a rating of 98.2. Apparently, according to Tom Pellissero, his play has been good enough to yield trade interest.

Mason Rudolph Trade Rumors

The question in this instance then becomes, what teams could be interested in Rudolph? There hasn't been any linked to him just yet but you would have to imagine potentially the Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, etc. could be interested to add to their quarterback room.

Rudolph isn't likely a guy that you would trade for to start for your team but similarly to Nick Mullens, who was just traded to the Minnesota Vikings to backup Kirk Cousins, it's an insurance policy.

Mason Rudolph's time in Pittsburgh seems to be nearing an end, just months after he was given the best odds to be the starting quarterback in 2022. At the time of Ben Roethlisberger's retirement, Rudolph was a heavy favorite at +275. For context, Kenny Pickett was +900 and Mitch Trubisky was +1600.
