NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds: Drake London Takes the Early Lead

Chris Olave (NFL OROY Odds: +1200) (Bet $100 to win $1200)

Wide receiver Chris Olave is already top 21 in the NFL in targets, but he and Jameis Winston have yet to develop real chemistry in the first two games that would let Olave have that breakout performance. In those 16 targets, Olave only has eight catches for 121 yards and no scores.

However, Olave leads the NFL in air yards, so Winston is trying to get him the ball downfield. His average depth of target is already 23.5 yards, which is top-seven in the NFL. If those deep bombs start connecting, Olave has a real chance to move significantly up this list. Considering the usage, I am very much in support of a few bets being thrown his way.

Garrett Wilson (NFL OROY Odds: +1000) (Bet $100 to win $1000)

If Garrett Wilson sees many more performances as he did in Week 2, he will eventually be a lock for this award. Having already stated he thinks Joe Flacco is a stronger QB option than incumbent Zach Wilson, Wilson saw that pay off with 14 targets for eight catches, 102 yards, and two touchdowns.

Wilson saw a 32.6% target share on Sunday, which is an elite, Davante Adams-type level. If he emerges as the number one option at wide receiver for a team that is throwing at one of the highest rates in the league, these +1000 odds will look silly by December.

Brian Robinson, Jr. (NFL OROY Odds: +1000) (Bet $100 to win $1000)

This one baffles me a bit as we still don't have a timeline for Brian Robinson's return. If you recall, he was the victim of a car-jacking the week before the season began and was shot several times. He is still in recovery and will miss at least two more games.

Add in the fact that Antonio Gibson has been doing an adequate job for the 1-1 Commanders on the ground and in the passing game, and Robinson might be coming in too late and with not enough leash to make up the ground against other top options.

Jahan Dotson (NFL OROY Odds: +800) (Bet $100 to win $800)

Part of the reason the Commanders have started so well on offense (55 points in their first two games), is the amazing play and scoring ability of Jahan Dotson. Among wide receivers, Dotson is second in the league in total snaps (136) and is also second in the league in touchdowns with three.

The major knock on Dotson, however, is that he only has a 10.8% target share, which is 81st in the league. That means the high touchdown total might be a bit fluky and certainly expects to come down if he can't earn more targets. Right now, if I'm betting on a wide receiver, Dotson is fourth for me behind London, Wilson, and Olave.

Drake London (NFL OROY Odds: +600) (Bet $100 to win $600)

Through just two games in the NFL, London is already top-12 this season in target share, targets, and receiving yards. He and Marcus Mariota have turned what was an abysmal Falcons offense into a respectable unit in their first couple of games.

What we are looking for in a potential offensive rookie of the year is an opportunity, usage, playing time, and play-making ability. London has shown he has all of those in spades. And the Falcons, who have no hopes of making a long playoff run this year, have every incentive to just keep running him out there and learning the game. He looks like the real deal through two weeks and may maintain this top spot all season.
