The Arizona Cardinals appear to be down to three coaches in their search for a new head coach. Cardinals Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph, Former New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton, and Pittsburgh Steelers Line Backers Coach Brian Flores appear to have separated themselves from the pack.

He’s followed by Sean Payton who’s given +350 odds, or an implied 22.2% chance to land the job he’s been connected to for months. Newcomer Brian Flores has seen his odds rise all the way to +375 after being left off the market when it opened.

There are two candidates with an outside shot to know though. Tennessee Titans Defensive Coordinator Shane Bowen is given +600 odds, or an implied 14.3% chance to land the job. DeMeco Ryans is given +750 odds, or an implied 11.8% chance.
When NFL teams fire their head coach they usually look for their opposite. The Cardinals went with a young first-time offensive-minded head coach last time. So now they’ve focused on defensive minds with four of the top on the market coming from defensive backgrounds, and the top-three coaches on the market have previous head coaching experience.
With a new General Manager hired in Monti Ossenfort, it’ll be interesting to see how he approaches the search. Wouldn’t be all that surprising if he brought Shane Bowen along with him from Tennessee, he’s one to keep an eye on.
