Raiders Next QB Odds: Lamar Jackson, Tom Brady the Favorites to Become Raiders' Week 1 Starter

The Las Vegas Raiders are going to have a new quarterback, the sportsbooks are sure of that. Who is that going to be? Well, Tom Brady is the current favorite, but another quarterback is quickly climbing the rankings.

Brady is given +275 odds, or an implied 26.7% chance to be the Raiders' Week 1 starter, the same as last week. Jimmy Garoppolo is still second with +350 odds, or an implied 22.2% chance. But third on the market has changed drastically. Last week, the Raiders were given +1200 odds to land Lamar Jackson, they’re now given +650 odds. That’s a change from an implied 7.7% chance to a 13.3% chance, nearly double.

While the odds are certainly moving in the Raiders' direction, it’s worth noting that the Raiders are still not among the top suitors on the market. The New York Jets +450, Miami Dolphins +500, and Atlanta Falcons +550, all have better odds of landing Lamar. However, it’s also worth noting that the Jets are the favorites, +250, to land Derek Carr, which could eliminate them from the discussion allowing the Raiders to kill two birds with one stone.

Every team that’s looking for a quarterback is going to be connected to Lamar Jackson this off-season. How could they not? He’s an MVP-caliber player who can completely change a team’s outlook from the second he puts on their uniform. The Raiders should have extra ammo to get him if they can seal a trade for Derek Carr in the near future.

However, Josh McDaniels has a great connection to two other starting quarterbacks expected to be available this offseason and neither would require giving up draft capital. So, while the Raiders are certainly in play for Lamar, the books just don’t believe he’s as realistic as Brady or Jimmy G at this point.
