Super Bowl Late Line Movement

The Chiefs took down the Eagles two years ago in Super Bowl LVII, 38-35, on a late Chiefs comeback in the second half and game-winning field goal. The contest was pretty evenly matched, with both teams flexing their offensive skills. There will be better defenses in this year's game, but the rosters are largely intact. We're expecting a fairly similar game on Sunday night to the one two years ago, at a potentially lower scoring bracket but with the same script.

The oddsmakers seem to agree, as we're getting the second-shortest spread in Super Bowl History at Chiefs -1 (105) in most places. The Super Bowl has never ended as a pick'em, but this is about as close as you can get. Heavy money has been flowing in on the Eagles all week as we detailed in our sharp money breakdown, with the vast majority of whale bets on Philly.

In fact, there isn't a single reported Chiefs wager in the media over $350K, as of about two hours before kickoff. The Eagles are loaded up with several of over $750,000, and they continue to pour on. With that kind of action, we expected the line to get closer to even which it has, but has never truly flipped over the line to Eagles becoming favored.

Super Bowl Exact Score Prediction

As far as the exact score, we can make an educated guess with the most probable ending digits (as seen in Super Bowl Squares). Both teams are rocking with a team total of 24.5 at this point, although the Eagles previously had a juiced TT of 22.5 when the line opened. As it continues towards dead even, their number has come up, but the Chiefs haven't gone down.

The game total has dropped a bit from 49.5 to 48.5, although 78% of the bets are on the over. Again, the Chiefs and Eagles have two of the top-4 scoring defenses in the league this year, both allowing less than 20 per game. It is a bit different than two years ago, when the Chiefs were ranked closer to 20th in points allowed per game. We're going to trust these defenses to an extent with our score prediction of 27-24, possibly sneaking over the total with a game-winning field goal late.

7's and 4's are the most common ending digits in the NFL, and it wouldn't be out of the question to see three touchdowns from each offense here. Mahomes and the Chiefs may trail the fast-starting Eagles and Saquon Barkley at some point, but will rally back with experience and the clutch gene.
