The Detroit Lions are back for 2025, seeking a third-straight NFC North title and a chance at the Super Bowl after falling flat in the playoffs last year.
The Lions were the No. 1 seed in the NFC, and completely crumbled under the playoff pressure. They tried to reprise the magic that got them to the NFC Championship in the 2023 season, and instead threw an incredible regular season out the window.
Detroit laid an egg against the Washington Commanders, giving up 45 points at home and failing to be competitive in the second half. Then, both Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn left for head coaching opportunities, leaving some of the best offensive and defensive units in the league without coordinators.
Now, the Lions are trying to get back in the mix and are hoping the third time's the charm for a Super Bowl run, but the odds are stacked against them. They have one of the harder schedules in the NFL, and will need to get the new coordinators warmed up early before an extremely difficult start to the season.
We'll get a second look at them in their preseason matchup with the Falcons tonight, shortly after getting blown away by the Chargers in the Hall of Fame Game at the end of July. Can they still find success in 2025 despite the changes? Let's take a look at the Detroit Lions season futures, prop bets, win totals, and more.
Detroit Lions 2024 Season Recap
- Record: 15-2
- Finish: Divisional Round Playoff Loss
- Stat leaders: Goff 2,903 passing yards, Gibbs 1,412 rushing yards, St. Brown 1,263 receiving yards
- 2024 Preseason Win Total: Over/Under 10.5 (Actual 15 Wins)

Detroit Lions Super Bowl Odds
The Detroit Lions may have missed their Super Bowl window. Everyone is thinking it, but the team is trying to deflect away from the obvious. Two stacked running backs, a couple of extremely talented receivers, a revamped Jared Goff, and a formidable defense paired with the two best coordinators in the NFL.
That has been wiped away with Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson leaving for head coaching jobs, and now they'll have to pick up the pieces with new options. Everyone may think the machine will keep rolling, but the star players are only as good as the schemes and coaches in charge of them.

Detroit Lions Win Total Odds
The Detroit Lions are getting an inflated win total, which I already ranted about this in my hall of fame game prediction article.
"Call me a hater, but the vast majority of the lift in the last few seasons was Dan Campbell allowing his stud coordinators go to work with their talented roster. He is not the mastermind behind the offensive scheme. Campbell may inspire toughness and resilience into his squad and run the culture around the franchise, but he is not individually responsible for winning many of their close games.
The fact that the Lions are still baiting bettors with a 10.5 win total despite all of the turnover on this coaching staff is eye-popping. They have a rough road ahead in 2025, and there will be a lot of adjustments taking place. Sure, Jared Goff will still be feeding a stacked offense, but the spirit and genius behind it is gone."
I simply can't see the Lions excelling through this stacked schedule with new coordinators. They could be carried by pure talent alone, but it's not the same under new direction, no matter how much they try to relive the Ben Johnson magic from a year ago. When they lose a few games early on, the wheels could come off quickly.
Four of the first six games involve the Packers, Ravens, Bengals, and Chiefs, all of which could be losses. There would be limited hope to hit 11 wins if they dropped three or four of the first six, so keep that in mind when setting your season futures.

Detroit Lions Odds To Make the Playoffs
The Lions are currently -185 to make the playoffs, the sixth-best odds in the NFL. But it doesn't really feel like that after discussing the start of the schedule and the competition they'll face. If it wasn't already obvious, I'm pretty bullish on the Lions season this year, especially if it doesn't mesh early on.
Regardless, they still have a 65% chance to make the playoffs according to these odds. I wouldn't go out of my way to take them to win the NFC North as detailed below, but they should still find a way to squeak into the playoffs. A bet at -185 is not advisable right now, but maybe take a look at this market after the first few games, especially if they lose a few to the Ravens, Bengals, or Chiefs, and then reassess their price based on how close the matchups are.
I certainly would not be surprised to see this team make the playoffs, but they have enough talent to muscle their way past the back half of the schedule if they can keep it together. Just don't expect to see the high-flying Lions of the last two years, and leading the NFL with 33.2 ppg last season may be a thing of the past.

Detroit Lions NFC North Division Odds
The Detroit Lions are favored to win the NFC North once again, but not by much. They aren't as strong in the division as they were last year, especially losing both coordinators. The latest odds have them at +155 entering the preseason, just under a 40% chance to win it.
The Packers are hot in their heels at +275, and the Vikings are in the mix at +360. While the Bears also have a lot of problems at +600, Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams could turn this franchise around fast if they start clicking early in the season. This division is wide open, and a weakened Lions unit is far from a lock to get a three-peat in the NFC North.
