PGA POWER RANKINGS: TOP 5 GOLFERS FOR 2025 ZURICH CLASSIC
The PGA Tour has its lone team format event this week at the 2025 Zurich Classic. Located outside of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana, this par 72 runs over 7,400 yards under the design of Pete Dye.
There are 80 teams, or duos, in the field at the Zurich Classic. It's the eighth year that this event has been played with a team, featuring two different formats. Thursday and Saturday will be Four-ball (best ball), while Friday and Sunday are reserved for Foursomes (alternate shot).
Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are defending champions at the Zurich Classic and remain the overwhelming betting favorites at +360 odds. Kurt Kitayama and Collin Morikawa are +1200, Thomas Detry and Robert MacIntyre are +1800, just like J.T. Poston and Keith Mitchell. The top-five betting favorites are rounded out by Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin, plus Taylor Moore and Wyndham Clark at +2200.
PGA handicapper Matt MacKay returns with his top five teams to back at TPC Louisiana ahead of the 2025 Zurich Classic. Follow Matt's X account for more PGA betting analysis and free picks throughout the 2025 PGA Tour season.

PGA POWER RANKINGS: ZURICH CLASSIC
1. LOWRY - MCILROY (+360) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Zurich Classic odds
Oddsmakers remain bullish on Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy to defend their title at TPC Louisiana this week. This Irish duo went -19 during best ball in Round 1 and Round 3 in 2024.
McIlroy and Lowry won a playoff against Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer. McIlroy's win at the Masters should instill plenty of confidence in the power-hitter, who has now completed the career Grand Slam at majors.
Lowry's tee-to-green accuracy is his best asset, while McIlroy has improved his short game quite a bit, resulting in three wins across six events on the PGA Tour in 2025.
Compared to the rest of the field, Lowry and McIlroy are nearly six-times shorter than every other team. I'd recommend betting a full unit on them to run it back for the first time since the Zurich Classic became a team event in 2017.
2. DETRY + MACINTYRE (+1800) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Zurich Classic odds
Robert MacIntyre has yet to record an outright win in 2025 but Thomas Detry finally claimed his first victory at the WM Phoenix Open a couple of months ago. The Belgian is a fantastic putter, ranked 35th SG: Putting, while MacIntyre's very precise tee-to-green, creating a well-balanced duo.
MacIntyre is 33rd in total strokes gained, including seventh off-the-tee and 35th on approach. Detry is 19th on par 4s and 37th SG: Off-the-Tee. In 2024, this team logged a T8 finish at the Zurich Classic.
At 18-1, let's sprinkle a quarter unit (0.25) on Detry and MacIntyre to get 4.5 units of profit if they win at TPC Louisiana this weekend.
3. HORSCHEL + HOGE (+2200) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Zurich Classic odds
Billy Horschel and Tom Hoge are an intriguing team to back at +2200 odds. Horschel hasn't had his best stuff so far in 2025 but he's still ranked 52nd SG: Putting and 48th scrambling.
Hoge is one of the best iron players on the PGA Tour. He's 14th SG: Approach and 17th in proximity. Horschel won this team event with Scott Piercy in 2018 and has five finishes inside the top 15 at TPC Louisiana since its new team format was implemented.
This will be the first time these two golfers are on a team and it could be dangerous for the field. Let's sprinkle another 0.25 unit wager on Horschel and Hoge to record an outright win at 22-1.
4. TAYLOR + HADWIN (+3500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Zurich Classic odds
Last year, Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin performed well while representing Canada. These two Canadian golfers logged a 10th place finish at 21-under-par, falling out of contention for the title due to a pedestrian -1-under-par finish in Round 4. In 2023, Taylor and Hadwin recorded a runner-up finish.
Taylor picked up an outright win during a playoff at the Sony Open in Hawaii back in January. He's ranked 20th SG: Approach, 21st driving accuracy, 11th at finding greens in regulation and 34th proximity.
Hadwin only has one top 10 finish this season but he's 53rd in birdie average. Taylor may have to carry this team on his back to contend but he's more than capable of delivering some big-time birdies.
At +3500, let's sprinkle a 0.10 unit wager to get 3.5 units of profit on this Canadian duo with plenty of team chemistry.
5. FOX + HIGGO (+4000) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Zurich Classic odds
Ryan Fox and Garrick Higgo are a fun sprinkle at 40-1 odds. Higgo just logged his second win at the Corales Puntacana Championship this past weekend, benefitting from Joel Dahmen's late implosion.
Fox and Higgo teamed up in 2024 and delivered a strong fourth-place finish at 23-under-par. These two went 7-under-par or lower in three of four rounds, showcasing their collective tee-to-green talent.
Fox ranks 53rd SG: Approach, 37th in driving distance, and 24th in putts per round. Higgo is riding high following his victory last weekend, so expect more confident golf from the 25-year-old South African golfer.
Low scoring conditions on one of the PGA Tour's most golfer-friendly courses should allow Fox and Higgo to climb into contention again this year. Let's bet one more 0.10 unit wager on Fox and Higgo to win four units of profit during the 2025 Zurich Classic.
