Latest Next Manchester United Manager Odds Following Ruben Amorim's Firing

Following a 1-1 tie with Leeds United this past weekend, Manchester United have made the decision to fire Ruben Amorim.

Amorim has never been able to fully convince the soccer world that he is the right man for the Manchester United job, and while many United supporters blame the ownership and executives for their troubles more than they do the coach, the results were hard to defend.

Now that Ruben Amorim has been fired, let's look at the Next Manchester United Manager odds. These odds are incredibly fluid and will change a lot over the coming days, so keep an eye out on oddschecker for the latest movements.

Latest Next Manchester United Manager Odds - Oliver Glasner Favorite, With Enzo Maresca in the Running

Now that Ruben Amorim has been dismissed, attention turns to who will take over the Old Trafford hot seat. Current Crystal Palace Manager, Oliver Glasner, is the sportsbooks' favorite as it stands, with Enzo Maresca firmly in the running, just days after leaving his post at Chelsea.

Former Manchester United defender, Laurent Blanc, is once again linked to the role, as is Xavi Hernandez, former England Head Coach, Gareth Southgate, and current USMNT Head Coach, Mauricio Pochettino. Darren Fletcher, who is taking over on an interim basis is also one of the favorites for one of the biggest jobs in the Premier League.

Leading Candidates to be the Next Manchester United Manager and Why

Oliver Glasner (+400)

Oliver Glasner guided Crystal Palace to their first-ever piece of major silverware when beating Manchester City in the FA Cup Final at Wembley.

His form continued at the start of this season, and Palace were sitting pretty in 5th place after 16 games. They are, however, now on a run of 5 games without a win, and have fallen to 14th place. They are still just 4 points behind Chelsea in 5th place, but their form needs to turn around fast.

Whether this short run of form has come at the very worst time for Glasner in terms of his chances of becoming the next Manchester United manager remains to be seen, but for him personally, it might just be the time to move on.

When everything was looking rosy, it would have been hard to leave Palace, but given his frustrations in the transfer market and this recent run of form, the appeal of the Old Trafford position may become too strong.

He looks like the best candidate for the role, and that is why he is as short as +400.

Darren Fletcher (+500)

Darren Fletcher already works at the club as the Manchester United Under-18s coach. Both of his sons are now getting playing time for the first team, and Fletcher made over 200 appearances for the club.

He is arguably the most likely candidate to take the role on an interim basis if ownership decides to delay until the Summer, but it's hard to envisage him being the long-term answer, with very little in the way of top-level management credentials.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is one former player who managed the team recently and was popular with the fans, but he was dismissed despite finishing 2nd and 3rd in the Premier League and reaching a Europa League Final. This may cause some former players to pause, as it's clear that anything less than winning a league or European competition will put you on the hot seat.

Enzo Maresca (+700)

Enzo Maresca has just lost his job at Chelsea, amid tensions with ownership, but it would seem that this was caused by his desire to join the blue side of Manchester.

Maresca has twice told Chelsea that he has been in discussions to take over from Pep Guardiola at Man City, and if the latter does leave at the end of this season, it might be that Maresca is happy to wait for that role instead.

Without any assurances that Guardiola is going to leave, though, Maresca may just find it too hard to pass up on a job at Manchester United, which is on the bucket list for so many coaches, even in these times. The history and prestige that go with being the Manchester United manager, along with the desire to be the one who turns it all around, are often too appealing to pass up.

Amorim left his role at Sporting CP early to take the United job, and it might be that Maresca jumps the gun and takes it here as well.

As a UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup winner with Chelsea in his 18 months in charge, Maresca has experience bringing silverware. It just depends on whether the former Manchester City employee can crossover to the red side of Manchester, especially with the City role potentially becoming available soon.

Who Will Be Manchester United's Next Manager?

The most obvious answer is Oliver Glasner. He is an improving coach who has the right pedigree to step into this role, but how easy will he be to prise away from Crystal Palace? Now might be the time to strike, as Palace's squad looks thin and their form has dipped, which will no doubt cause uncertainty for Glasner.

Elsewhere, former player and current Under-18s manager, Darren Fletcher, is the safe option if they just want someone in on an interim basis until they can make a more thought-out decision. Best-case scenario, Fletcher brings the good times back, and he's another legendary Scottish manager at the club. Worst case, it doesn't work out, and they revisit at the end of the season.

Enzo Maresca is the other leading candidate, but he's a former Manchester City employee who has just left Chelsea amid reports that he's been discussing the City position. If he has any sort of guarantee that Gurdiaola is favoring an exit at the end of this season, then he is surely going to wait for that job.

Michael Carrick, Wayne Rooney, and Kieran McKenna all have ties to Man United and would look to step up after roles in the Championship.
