Wyoming Republican Governor Primary Odds: Eric Barlow Clear Favorite on GOP Side for Tuesday's Vote

Wyoming Republicans vote Tuesday, August 18, to choose their nominee for governor, with Eric Barlow entering election night as the clear prediction-market favorite. Megan Degenfelder and Brent Bien remain notable challengers in the four-candidate race, but traders increasingly expect Barlow to emerge with the nomination.

Can Anyone Beat Out Eric Barlow for Wyoming Republican Governor Nominee on Tuesday Night?

Barlow carries an 82% probability on Kalshi with 0% of the vote counted, well ahead of Degenfelder at 19% and Bien at 4.7%. Curt Blake is also running, but the race has largely centered on Barlow, Degenfelder and Bien throughout the campaign.

Wyoming's Republican nomination carries enormous importance because the party controls every statewide elected office and has dominated recent gubernatorial elections. Whoever wins Tuesday's primary will face Democrat Kenneth Casner in November.

Eric Barlow (82%)

Barlow enters primary night with the strongest market position after steadily establishing himself as the candidate to beat. The state senator is a former Wyoming House speaker, Marine veteran, veterinarian, rancher and longtime state legislator, giving him one of the deepest résumés in the field.

His campaign released an internal July poll showing Barlow at 42%, compared with Degenfelder at 19% and Bien at 14%, with 22% undecided. The poll was commissioned by Barlow's campaign, so it should be treated accordingly, but its order closely resembles how the prediction market has ultimately developed.

Barlow has also been competitive financially, raising more total money since entering the race than any other gubernatorial candidate, according to recent campaign-finance analysis. That combination of statewide political experience, fundraising and polling strength helps explain why his market probability has climbed to 82% despite strong endorsements behind his opponents.

Megan Degenfelder (19%)

Degenfelder is Wyoming's superintendent of public instruction and the most obvious candidate capable of upsetting Barlow. President Donald Trump endorsed her before she formally entered the race and has repeatedly promoted her candidacy, while Rep. Harriet Hageman has also backed her.

She has remained competitive in fundraising and enters Tuesday with considerably more institutional and national support than her 19% market probability might suggest. The problem is that Barlow's lead has persisted despite those advantages, leaving Degenfelder needing the electorate to look materially different from the market's expectations.

Brent Bien (4.7%)

Bien is a retired Marine colonel and combat pilot who already has experience running statewide, earning nearly 30% against Gov. Mark Gordon in the 2022 Republican primary. He also secured the Wyoming Republican Party Central Committee's endorsement this year, an unusual development in a contested primary.

That support has not translated into prediction-market momentum. At 4.7%, Bien would need a major polling and turnout surprise to jump both Barlow and Degenfelder.

Wyoming Republican Primary Market Outlook

Barlow is not quite at the near-certainty levels seen in some of Tuesday's other gubernatorial markets, but 82% represents a clear expectation that the former House speaker will win. His campaign entered the final month claiming a substantial polling lead, and the market has continued moving in his direction rather than tightening.

Degenfelder remains the meaningful alternative because of her statewide office, fundraising and high-profile endorsements. Bien has enough background and party support to remain relevant, but the market views his path as much narrower. With no votes counted yet, the race is not settled, but Barlow enters election night with a substantial advantage.
