Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction: Can Justin Verlander, Astros Stop Skid Against Mariners?

The Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros meet for game three of their series from T-Mobile Park in Washington. The Mariners have taken the first two meetings of the series while holding the Astros bats seemingly quiet. The Astros will have to win tonight if they want to try and tie this series to finish it off.

The Seattle Mariners currently lead the AL West with a record of 30–26, while the Houston Astros are 5.5 games back of the Mariners at 24–31. What should we expect in Seattle tonight?

Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction

The Mariners will send out George Kirby to the mound first tonight. Kirby is 4–5 with a 4.33 ERA on the season. While his ERA is average, he has just a 1.03 whip, which is currently 15th among qualified pitchers this season in the MLB. Kirby had a hot start to the season, but has been struggling a bit as of late, allowing 10 earned runs a lot across his last two starts in 12 innings pitched against the Orioles and Nationals. He will have to lock back in against very dangerous lineup tonight in the Astros. The Astros counter with veteran Justin Verlander. The name alone needs no explanation, as Verlander is pitching with a 3.6 ERA entering tonight. Verlander has long been one of the most notable pitching names in major league baseball, and he has lived up to that reputation again this season. He has struggled in a few starts, but he is always locked in against the Mariners, a divisional foe. In 38 career starts against the Mariners, Verlander is sporting a 22–10 record and a 3.02 ERA. The Astros have had one of the best offenses in baseball this year, and usually are losing because of their pitching and bullpen. The Astros are first in baseball this year with a .261 overall team batting average. They’re one of the top offenses in the league, but the rotation has not given them enough stability on defense to win games. That will be different with Justin Verlander on the mound tonight, who has been excellent for yet another season and has pitched well against the Mariners in his career.

The Astros have lost the last two games of the series, but I doubt they lose tonight with Verlander on the mound against the team he has known and dominated. Back the Astros to fight and have a chance to tie the series tomorrow.
