They are only one game back in the NL Wildcard race, and with one of the most underrated starting pitchers in baseball on the mound for them tonight, they could put themselves back in the playoff race with a win.

The Nationals will be facing Reese Olson and the Tigers for the second game of the series on Wednesday. He’s coming off debatably the worst start of the MLB season where he gave up 12 hits and eight earned runs in just four innings of work. Jake Irvin is about to lower his ERA below a 3.00 for the season and nobody is talking about it. This guy is the most slept-on, underrated starter in MLB right now, and he’s coming off four great outings in a row. I trust Irvin to put up another great start on the road against this underwhelming Tigers lineup on Wednesday night.
Clearly I want to take the Nationals on the moneyline in this spot, but this is a rare game where I like two plays. I find it very odd that after yesterday’s total went over, the total is actually lower for game two of the series tonight. Maybe oddsmakers are finally starting to respect Jake Irvin, but the timing is weird considering Reese Olson is coming off the worst start of his career.
I love seeing the total drop from 8 to 7.5 after yesterday’s game went over, making this under a contrarian play. Not only do I think the Nationals at plus-money are a great look, but the under in this game shouldn’t go unnoticed.
