Washington Nationals vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction: Will Patrick Corbin Get Lit Up By Tigers in Final Matchup?

The Nationals skipped Patrick Corbin’s last start earlier this week to give him some extra time off. He’s really struggled of late, giving up four or more runs in three of his last four outings. We were going to see Corbin pitch this weekend, but with MacKenzie Gore now dealing with something on his finger, the Nats decided to move Corbin’s start back up.

Washington Nationals vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction

It’s no surprise that Corbin is one of the worst starting pitchers in baseball once again this season. His ERA is now above 6.00 after getting rocked by the Mets in his last start. What are the Nationals supposed to do? They need someone to eat up innings and he’s getting paid far too much guaranteed money to get waived by the team. As the Nationals keep rolling him out there to eat up innings, I will continue to fade him.

Luckily for Washington, they have been extremely hot of late. Winners of five in a row, the Nationals are only one game out of the Wildcard, and as they look for the series sweep on the road in Detroit, they have a solid matchup against a struggling right-hander on Thursday. Casey Mize has an ERA that’s ballooned up to nearly 5.00 after some brutal May/June starts. The Nationals have been crushing right-handed pitching lately, too. Casey Mize, much like Patrick Corbin, might be in for a rough outing on Thursday afternoon…

Once it was announced that it was going to be Patrick Corbin, not MacKenzie Gore, on the bump on Thursday, the total immediately shot up to o/u 9.5. The splits (on VSiN), are sharp for this over as well, with around 50% of the bets but more than 80% of the handle betting it. There’s a reason we’re seeing this total balloon up to nearly 10 with MacKenzie Gore’s start getting pushed back.

Both of these offenses performed nicely of late. Detroit is 8-2 in their last ten games to the over, and the Nationals have cashed four straight overs in a row. Ride the hot hand with these offenses on Thursday, and lock-in the over with the sharps. I’ll meet you at the cash counter after it cashed before the 7th inning stretch.
