Red Sox vs. Yankees Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest MLB Odds for Sunday Night Baseball

The Yankees and Red Sox weekend rivalry series has seen no shortage of offense, with 32 runs in two games. Each team won a separate shootout, will they keep scoring on Sunday Night Baseball? Matt MacKay thinks Carlos Rodon will shut that trend down in this Red Sox vs. Yankees prediction and betting pick for Sunday, June 8th.

Red Sox vs. Yankees Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest MLB Odds for Sunday Night Baseball

A classic AL East division rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees is set for a primetime at Yankee Stadium on Sunday Night Baseball. It's a rubber match after the Red Sox evened this series 1-1 with a 10-7 win on Saturday night.

The Yankees will trot out Carlos Rodón as their starting pitcher tonight. He's 8-3 with a 2.49 ERA and 98 total strikeouts recorded in 2025. Rodón has surrendered only two earned runs in his last four starts.

Hunter Dobbins gets the nod for the Red Sox with a 2-1 record and a 4.06 ERA with 37 total strikeouts. The 25-year-old right-handed pitcher has given up three runs across his last two starts.

Oddsmakers favor the Yankees heavily at home on Sunday Night Baseball, pricing New York's moneyline at -220 odds. The run total is set to an even 8, with juice on the under at -115 odds.

Red Sox vs. Yankees Prediction

The Boston Red Sox will look to win back-to-back games for the first time in 15 straight matchups. It's going to be a tough assignment in the Bronx against a loaded Yankees lineup that also has support from pitcher Carlos Rodón's strong campaign in 2025.

Boston has not covered the run line following a win four straight times. The Red Sox have also lost six straight night games against AL opponents after recording a win. These trends point toward Rodón and the Yankees tonight.

The Yankees currently hold a 4.5 game lead in the AL East. Boston is 9.5 games back from New York, going 4-6 SU in their last ten games played. Even worse for the Red Sox outlook tonight is that the Yankees have only lost back-to-back games once since May 5th, which came on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers last weekend.

Dobbins is solid, only allowing four home runs and 10 walks in nine starts for the Red Sox in 2025. He's pitched fairly well on the road, although recently he's surrendered seven total runs against Detroit and Milwaukee.

Rodón has been riding high lately, shutting down the Mets, Rangers, Angels and Guardians entering Sunday Night Baseball. The Yankees' lefty has not allowed a home run in four straight starts but faces Boston's bats, which rank sixth-highest in runs per game (4.83) this year.

Each of the first two games flew over the total runs prop. On Friday, New York won 9-6. Saturday saw Boston build an 8-3 lead in the 3rd inning, holding on for a 10-7 victory.

Tonight feels like it's going to be a tight, lower-scoring game. This matches an under trend, with 11 of the Yankees' last 12 games as favorites against AL opponents going under the total runs line.

In 13 starts for the Yankees, Rodón has seen the game total under 8 go 8-5-2. Under 8 has gone 4-1-1 in Rodón's last six starts. Dobbins is 3-6 toward under 8 total runs, including 0-3 in his previous three starts.

We're either going to back the Yankees to cover the run line or bite on the run total under. There's a potential for a push in play with an even 8.

These teams both rank in the top-seven for most strikeouts per game in 2025. Since there is high-quality pitching involved, let's bet one unit on under 8 total runs at -115 odds.
