Juan Soto wasn’t named to the All-Star team, but Mets fans won’t care if he continues his torrid hitting. Soto started slowly, but has been one of the best hitters in baseball since the start of June.
In that span over 33 games, Soto is batting .324 with 29 runs, 12 home runs, 24 RBIs, a 468 on-base percentage and a 1.153 OPS. The Statcast page for Soto is a sea of red. He’s in the 94th percentile or more of nine categories.
Soto gets a great matchup against Orioles’ right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano. He has a 4.44 ERA and 1.31 WHIP, but allows a lot of contact and issues hardly any walks with a 14.4% strikeout rate and 4.8% walk rate. He has an xERA of 5.78 and a barrel rate in the seventh percentile. He has allowed seven home runs in his last 18 innings. He has allowed 2.23 HR/9 against lefties. Sugano has allowed 12 of 19 home runs to left-handers. The Orioles' bullpen has a 4.55 ERA, which is the sixth worst in baseball.

Nick Kurtz is making a push for the American League Rookie of the Year Award. He is third in odds behind teammate Jacob Wilson and Cam Smith. Kurtz got off to a slow start with a .558 OPS with one home run through 23 games. In the last 30 games, Kurtz is slashing .279/.367/.685 with 13 home runs and a 1.052 OPS.
Kurtz is most appealing when at home and facing a right-hander and that’s the case on Wednesday with the A’s at home against Braves’ right-hander Bryce Elder. At home, Kurtz is slashing .298/.376/.681 with 10 home runs and 27 RBIs in 94 at-bats with a 1.057 OPS compared to .642 on the road. Against righties, Kurtz is slashing .275/.356/.681 with 24 runs, 13 home runs, and 33 RBIs in 142 at-bats with a .408 wOBA and .338 ISO and a 69.3% hard hit rate..
