Although the MLB regular season has taken a break, there's still the MLB Home Run Derby tonight!
Tonight's Home Run Derby will begin at 8:00 pm ET at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, and it'll be aired on ESPN.
The contest will have eight competitors, including Cal Raleigh, who has absolutely taken the MLB by storm with 38 home runs in the first half of the season. However, despite his dominance in the regular season, I'm not backing him to win the derby this year.
Instead, I'm going with younger players, with more stamina and bat speed. Let's talk about it below.

2025 MLB Home Run Derby Odds
MLB Home Run Derby Best Bets

Oneil Cruz is +330, behind Cal Raleigh at +300. However, Cruz makes more sense at that odds range. After all, Cal Raleigh is a catcher. He's already been overworked and it's likely going to be tired at the plate. We need young players who will have the stamina to go all the way.
Cruz fits that criteria.
In fact, Cruz has the longest home run of the season at 463 feet. He'll surely get the bonus time with home runs hit 425+ feet. That will help his chances of earning more home runs overall. In addition, he's got the hardest hit ball of the 2025 season, which was a 432-foot bomb that went nearly 123 mph.
I dislike the fact that this is his first attempt at the home run derby. But he's got the perfect swing to win this thing. So give him a try at +310.

You'll notice a theme. I'm going with the young guns who have raw power and a powerful swing. James Wood hit a ball 451 feet during the regular season. He's also ranking in the 97th percentile in average exit velocity and 99th percentile in hard-hit rate.
Now, he doesn't have an uppercut swing. He has actually hit many ground balls, but doesn't have a great launch angle. So that's something to think about. Still, if he gets in a groove, like Cruz, he should be able to earn multiple bonus balls with home runs at 425+ feet and can take advantage of home runs down the right field line as a left-handed batter.

If you're going after a player at +1000 odds or worse, consider Junior Caminero. He's already added 23 home runs on the season, and he's on pace to add 40 home runs on the season. He would be the third player all-time to hit 40+ home runs in a season, where he started at the age of 21.
Caminero ranks in the 100th percentile in bat speed and has a top 15 exit velocity. I love that for a timed event. He'll see every ball possible and should be able to stay disciplined, locked in, and strong throughout the entire competition.
Ultimately, he's sitting at +1000 because of a fear that he will hit a lot of balls on the ground. Still, with the other metrics I wrote about, Caminero is undoubtedly a good value bet at +1000 odds.
