4 Minute ReadCubs vs. White Sox Prediction: Can Davis Martin, White Sox Take Advantage of Cooled Off Cubs?
The Cubs have been one of the best teams in baseball this season, but this feels like a perfect spot to fade them and back a White Sox team that is quietly playing some really good baseball right now.

Cubs vs. White Sox Prediction
The biggest reason starts on the mound with Davis Martin. At some point, people are going to realize just how dominant he’s been lately. Martin has allowed one run or fewer in five of his last six starts and continues to look more confident every outing. The White Sox are 5-0 during that stretch, and his numbers back it up completely.
A 1.62 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 50 innings is no fluke. He’s locating well, missing bats, and consistently keeping hitters uncomfortable deep into games. And now he gets a Cubs lineup that has cooled off considerably after its scorching start.
Chicago has now lost back-to-back series and looks far less explosive offensively than it did a couple weeks ago. This is also an underrated scheduling spot. The Cubs are near the end of a long and difficult road trip, while the White Sox are playing confident baseball at home after sweeping the Royals and taking a series from Seattle.
Momentum absolutely matters for young teams, and this White Sox lineup is starting to believe in itself. Munetaka Murakami has been a monster in the middle of the order with 15 home runs and a .905 OPS, while Miguel Vargas has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball this month. Chase Meidroth continues to get on base consistently, and this lineup suddenly has depth all throughout it.
That’s important against a pitcher like Jameson Taillon. Taillon has been solid overall this season, but the underlying matchup here isn’t ideal. He’s already allowed 11 home runs this year, and historically he’s struggled against the White Sox, carrying an ERA north of four in his career against them. And unlike Martin, Taillon isn’t coming into this game in dominant form.
The Cubs are still the bigger public team, but this matchup feels much closer than the market suggests. Honestly, I think the White Sox may have the better current form on both sides of the ball entering tonight. They’re at home, playing with confidence, getting elite starting pitching lately, and facing a Cubs team that finally looks vulnerable after its hot streak. And if Martin continues pitching the way he has over the last month, Chicago may not need many runs to create separation here.
