Colorado vs. Texas Tech Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest CBB Odds for Wednesday's Big 12 Clash

Colorado showed real fight in the first meeting, but the final score does not tell the full story. Texas Tech controlled that game for long stretches, built a 24 point second half lead and largely let Colorado back in due to foul trouble and free throw variance. Now the rematch shifts to Lubbock, one of the most difficult road environments in the Big 12, and that changes everything.

Colorado vs. Texas Tech Prediction

The Buffaloes come in having won two of their last three, but they are still just 1 and 5 on the road this season. That matters here. This Texas Tech team feeds off its home crowd, and its aggressive defensive style becomes even more disruptive inside its own building.

In the first matchup, Colorado benefited from a number of outlier factors. The Red Raiders committed 20 fouls, had four players in serious foul trouble and attempted only 10 free throws compared to Colorado’s 22. The Buffaloes hit 19 of those 22 attempts. That type of whistle and efficiency is extremely difficult to replicate, especially on the road.

Even with all of that working in Colorado’s favor, Texas Tech still built a massive lead. Christian Anderson is the key to this offense. He had just three assists in the first meeting, one of his lowest totals of the season, and that is unlikely to happen again. Anderson is lethal in the two man game and is one of the best facilitators in the conference. When he is orchestrating cleanly, JT Toppin benefits the most.

Toppin was dominant in stretches of the first matchup and remains a nightmare for Colorado on the glass. He grabbed seven offensive rebounds in that game alone, part of a 16 offensive rebound performance by Texas Tech. That physical edge is not going away, and over forty minutes it wears teams down.

Colorado does have pieces. Isaiah Johnson can explode in transition and Sebastian Rancik stretches the floor at 6 foot 11. But relying on transition opportunities and foul drawing on the road against a physical, aggressive defense is a dangerous formula. Johnson went to the line 13 times in the first meeting. Expecting that again in Lubbock is optimistic at best.

Texas Tech’s defense thrives on forcing tough, contested shots and protecting its home floor. When the Red Raiders are able to crash the glass, limit second chances and play downhill offensively, they can create separation quickly. Add in the pace and pressure they bring at home, and this sets up as a difficult matchup for a Colorado team that has struggled away from Boulder.

The first meeting showed the gap between these teams when whistles and variance are neutral. At home, with Anderson fully in rhythm and Toppin controlling the paint, Texas Tech should be able to extend that margin and close strong.
