The UFC 292 main card features an interesting short-notice bout between two contrasting yet intriguing welterweight contenders. Ian Garry has been making waves since his entry into the promotion. Neil Magny holds the record for most UFC welterweight wins, while Ian Garry is just 25 years old and five fights into his UFC career. Still, the oddsmakers heavily favor Garry in this fight, with odds north of -500 at the time of writing. Can "The Future" get it done and keep the "0" in his loss column at UFC 292?

Neil Magny vs. Ian Garry Prediction
Garry, a Southpaw with a Judo black belt, possesses finishing ability no matter where the fight goes. His seven knockout victories underscore his ability to deliver fight-ending blows. Garry's kickboxing skills, characterized by hard leg kicks and crisp combinations, are poised to give Magny trouble. However, the key for Garry will be maintaining discipline, as Magny has quite literally seen it all in the octagon over his several years in the promotion.
Neil Magny, the seasoned veteran of the welterweight division, steps into the octagon with a reputation as the division's gatekeeper. Magny's well-rounded game hinges on wrestling and relentless pressure, as he averages 2.3 takedowns per 15 minutes. His jab and clinch work have proven effective at setting up his takedowns. Magny's success often comes from grinding wars of attrition and exploiting his opponents' fatigue, as he is a decision machine. In 28 career wins, Magny has won by finish in just 11 of them. Only seven of his 21 UFC wins have come by finish.
For Magny, he has to get this fight to the fence or the ground. His clinch dominance and cage control will be his key weapon against Garry. For Garry, he has many advantages, like the fact that Magny had ten days' notice in this fight, Garry is 11 years younger, Garry has more powerful striking, and Garry has more output on the feet. It's not hard to see why Garry is such a large favorite, but Magny is not a stranger to being an underdog in a big spot on a big stage.
With such high odds on Garry, there is no reason to back him as a -520 favorite. I wouldn't even advise putting him in a parlay, as the boost with a -520 is not worth the chance that Magny can pull off the upset, as he has proven he can before. However, the submission line has stuck out to me. Garry only has one career submission, which is why the odds on much higher on that prop, but he has underrated grappling, and while Judo is not the same as Jiu-Jitsu, they are similar in many ways, and Garry should not be underestimated on the ground as a black belt in Judo. Five of Magny's nine losses in the UFC have come by submission, and while he is a good wrestler, he has been caught by good grapplers. While the expected outcome here is Garry to win by knockout, I am going to take my chances on Garry to show off some of his grappling in this fight and exploit a weak spot for Magny.
