Bobby Green vs. Paddy Pimblett Prediction: Can Green Stop the Pimblett Hype Train at UFC 304?

Rising star Paddy Pimblett is back in action this weekend as he faces off against his toughest opposition to date on the main card of UFC 304: Edward vs. Muhammad 2. Bobby “King” Green has stepped up to face the rising star and try and put a halt to his momentum.

Paddy Pimblett entered the UFC with a lot of hype and has started his way in the promotion with a 5–0 record. He has fought in front of his home crowd in England nearly every time he has fought in the UFC and will do so again this time around.

Bobby Green vs. Paddy Pimblett Prediction

Pimblett is predominantly a grappler who loves to find his finishes on the ground. He has nine submission wins in his 21 career wins overall, while also sporting six knockouts. However, many of those knockouts came via ground and pound on the mat as well. Pimblett's striking has been a work in progress while he has been in the UFC, and he will be facing off against one of the best technical boxers in the lightweight division on Saturday night in Bobby Green. Green will bring age into the octagon at 37 years old, but he also brings a lot of experience. Green has been in the UFC since 2013 and he has faced off against some of the best UFC has to offer in that time. While his chin has started to show flashes of aging, I am not as worried about that against an opponent like Pimblett, who lacks the powerful knockout striking needed to take Green out. Rather, will have to get him to the ground and probably finish this fight by submission.

However, Green has faced his share of tough grapplers in the past and has shown excellent grappling, as he sports a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Green has nine wins by submissions and has only been submitted twice in his career. Green has never been submitted in UFC as well. Although Paddy Pimblett is 5-0 in the UFC, his record is very sketchy. Both his first two fights in the UFC came against guys who are no longer in the promotion, and his third came against a guy who is 3–3 in the UFC and may not fight again in the promotion. In his fourth fight in the UFC, he had one of the worst decision wins I’ve ever seen, as nearly every person on earth who watched his fight against Jared Gordon thought Gordon won. It was one of the worst decisions I can remember watching live and every media outlet had Gordon winning that either 30-27 or 29–28.

In his most recent fight, he faced a shell of Tony Ferguson, who is now 40 years old, and he still couldn’t finish the fight. So while Pimblett has a good record so far, his résumé is very sketchy and I think Bobby Green will pose a monstrous big threat to Pimblett.

Bobby Green opened as a near -200 favorite in this fight, but with Pimblett being such a popular fighter who is 5–0 in the UFC, bettors have driven this price down on Green to nearly pick ‘em odds. I love fading this line movement, as I believe Green is much better on the feet and will give Pimblett too many problems for him to overcome in this fight. Back Bobby Green to continue his winning streak and move up the rankings on Saturday night in England.
